Check your driveshaft periodically.

Without any kind of warning my carrier bearing let loose yesterday. ost the driveshaft at 60mph. No vibrations before hand just poof. UV at the rear end broke off.
Oh yeah always carry your cell phone cause when your broke down not even the damn cops will stop. I spent an hour on the side of the highway trying to flag anyone down. I forgot my cell.
And when hey say its a soft shoulder they arent kidding. The asphault I was standing on let go, I fell and slid down the hill and busted my ankle. Swollen up like a grapefruit right now. Oh and it was 110 yesterday.
Got it all fixed last night but I can tell you its not something you can fix on the side of the road for sure.
What a pain in the butt day for sure.

Wow - lost your drive shaft, no cell phone and a busted ankle, a bad day indeed -sorry to hear it. Some might say it could have been worse but for now, best wishes to a speedy recovery and then fix that truck and get back on the road.

I would've though the crossmember the driveshaft goes though would've held it shaft in place and not let it exit

Mine is just a splined slip yoke on the front of the rear driveshaft section. If the rear u-joint fails, its gonna hit the road and then slide on out. Sorry to hear the bad news. At least you didn't park on that soft shoulder. That would have been real permanent bad news. Better luck to yah from now on. Jim

Thanks guys. I got it put back together last night. The bearing was good its the rubber damper that went south. I didnt have a choice to fix it last night, I had too much going on this morning. My other vehicle is my Harley and I cant ride it with a busted ankle.

if the shaft came loose at 60 mph you bent at least one of the shafts. You need to pull both shafts and have them at least ballaned at a driveline shop I hope that al you need.
