Carb issue
I have an issue with a carb bogging when u give it gas. Seems to run ok with choke on, but once I open the choke it bogs, almost stalls. Its a 307 with a 2 barrel, carb looks like it was replaced at some point with a rebuilt unit (has sticker on it).
Any info or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Scott

Re: Carb issue
Vacuum leak around the base, float stuck....Could be several things.....Start with checking all the bolts and screws on the carb to see if they are loose.

Re: Carb issue
Thanks smitty.....checked carb screws and base nuts, all tight.
I can see fuel squirting in if I look into it and push on the throttle (not running). Any other suggestions on how to narrow down this issue? Thanks again.

Re: Carb issue
Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. when you say it bogs with choke open tells me that there is an extreme lean condition. Check for open ports ,cracked base or fitment of base gasket, Plugged idle mixture feed. I would lean more to the vacuum leak. best way to find out is to start the vehicle and while running spray carb cleaner or alike to the base of carb, throttle bushings, all ports and see if the idle jumps fast them quickly drops back down after you stop spraying. Does it pop back through the carb at all before it dies or just stalls out. Oh by the way I turned in the carb to the post office.

Re: Carb issue
How is the fuel pressure getting up to the carb? How old is the pump? still sounds like a vac leak or possible float problem....
