Pomona Swap Meet pics
Well, I wasted 5 hrs walking thru the massive swap meet - bought a few old manuals and an oil pan, but I gotta say, quality was generally low - nowhere near the selection/quality of old stuff at the L.A. Roadster Show swap meet or Carlisle show series. Way, WAY too many vendors selling wind-up toy crap and stuffed animals... And it was crowded beyond belief. But all were friendly and sweaty. The car corral, however, was inccredible as usual. By the time I got there with my achin dogs... many were leaving the scene already (meet goes from 0500-1400 only). Anyhoo, many nice old trucks, this is just a few of them. Tried to post for sale sign right after the truck if you are interested. The slightly blocked phone number is a 310 area code...
Lots of burbs - and the 55.1 in the first pic was simply incredible. here you go (will take a few posts to get them all in): Last edited by jocko; 08-14-2011 at 11:29 PM. |

Re: Pomona Swap Meet pics
I thought about going, but I haven't found anything I liked there since I bought some deep crown victoria steel wheels for a Maverick I owned in the 90s. The crowds are always really thick, and frankly, like you said there isn't any stuff I'm Interested in. I'd like to find old OE stuff in usable condition...wheels, fenders, etc...but mostly you see chinese crap.

Re: Pomona Swap Meet pics
yep. I used to go fairly often last time i lived in socal, but the swap meet fever has worn off. Got lost in the EIGHT rows of Volkswagen junk... BUT, I will go back again JUST for the car show and probably spend all my time there. Passing on a swap meet is like turning down candy, easier said than done. But I know I missed a LOT of great cars and trucks that had left by the time I got to the car corral. And would've liked the time to just chat with some of the owners.
Hey, you're IN L.A., I drove 2.5 hours each way! No excuses, see you out there next time! Hopefully I'll have the trans back in my truck and I can drive it out for the show - many of the cars in the lot were not for sale, they were just there for the fun of it. The late 40's early 50's trucks and cars both were incredibly well represented. |

Re: Pomona Swap Meet pics
What an incredible amount of interesting trucks. I think that’s more suburban’s in one place than I think I’ve ever seen collectively in real life. That 55.1 is immaculate. If I could afford one that’s exactly what it would look like minus the visor. I love these with all the trim including the guards, lamps and fender speed lines.
Thanks for sharing. |

Re: Pomona Swap Meet pics
I went, walked every row, and nearly got heat stroke. By the time I got back to the car, I was dying. They say that it's 15 miles if you walk it all. I was wearing my big hat, which works great for keeping the sun out, but it traps all the heat. My head felt like it was on fire. Time to get a better hat!
I didn't see hardly any 60-66 stuff. Lots of inside door handles, and believe it or not, a bunch of 60-63 gauge clusters. I hardly spent anything. I did pick up a nice set of 66-67 Chevelle dogdish caps for $30. I used to go to every swapmeet, but in the last 10 years, I have backed off to maybe 2 a year. I'll probably stay to that number. I wish they would have a separate section for the toys. I grow tired looking for something and all I see is toys. There are people who go specifically for the toys, so why not give them their own section? Thanks for posting the pictures, Jocko. That's one thing you can guarantee at Pomona....Awesome cars in the For Sale section.

Re: Pomona Swap Meet pics
I was going to go, but my wife is leaving town for a month and I didn't think she would be happy if I took off for the day. I did a double take on the 60 GMC that's in the second set of pictures. It looks VERY close to mine. I was there last time and had a pedometer which said I walked 13 miles. I'll make the next one for sure. Maybe bringing my truck or to sell the squareback

Re: Pomona Swap Meet pics
I wished I'd gotten a pic of the caddy limo - it was incredible, about 25 feet long, but only a 4 door, and it looked like it was custom stretched. Incredible looking car - lowered, and all the bells and whistles. The 49-54 contingent (both cars and trucks) was the absolute best represented bunch. There were a lot of burbs though. I have a soft spot for the 55.1 - right before I bought my current 66, I passed on a pretty darn nice 55.1 - STILL think about her now and then..... (here it is, and the price was right):

Re: Pomona Swap Meet pics
Hey Juan you could have done a better job of taking a picture of my truck. HA HA you got my friends Bel air but my truck whats up with that LOL? Hey you want sell the 47or 48 you have?
check out this black caddy it is in my opinion in perect conditions but the guy told a mutual friend he is going to re-paint the whole car. Man I wish I had that kind of $$$$. I agree the toys should be to limited to their own section. I was not happy walking the whole swapmeet to find toys. If I wanted toys I would go to Toys r us. I although I did come up on some 59-60 oem hub caps for my truck and a NOS gas cap. Oh the high light was buying a set of slightly used aluminum pullies for alternator, water pump and Harmonic balancer for only $10. He screwed up and said $10 for the set. They were stacked up as a set. He almost didn't sell them to me because his friend began to get hustile and telling me I was dumb if I thought it included all three pullies. I laughed and said your friend said $10 for the SET... grabbed them and gave the money to guy. A deal is deal. win some and loose some It was my turn to win for once. Hell it's the swapmeet. |
