Re: Hurricane Irene!!

It won't be fizzing out. I am inland and high,so not concerned with flooding. It's just going to be a real bad storm here. Power outage is my worst worry. We're supposed to get 40-50 mph sustained winds with 70 mph gusts and 4-6" of rain. We've been getting some rain lately so the ground is already soft and somewhat saturated. Trees will be falling. It's supposed to hit this area from about 4am to 2pm Sunday.

Re: Hurricane Irene!!

Boy, I hope we get the rain. Things are dry dry dry here! They've been going right around Middletown Valley, so we haven't gotten anything significant since June.

Re: Hurricane Irene!!

My 2nd youngest sister lives on the coast in Maryland in the predicted heavy flood zones. They're on their way to western NY to stay with my parents. Apparently we're not going to see anything from the storm at all in upstate SC like they had thought. Fine with me.

Re: Hurricane Irene!!

YAAHOOO!! From RVA! Bought all the beer and jerky I could gather! I'm gonna tie myself to the mailbox and watch it roll in!! In all seriousness, I'm worried about the sick tree just out behind my house and not being spoiled with running water and electricity for a coupla days. I'm sure I'll be fine but I wish others in the path good luck!!

Re: Hurricane Irene!!

I'm an old hurricane surviver on the Mississipi coast.
Best advice?
Take care of family first.Be prepared for the worst.Have enough food, water, fuel, medications for 2 weeks.Don't count on any help!
Don't wait too long to prepare.
Try to help those who can't help themselves.(elderly, sick, disabled, etc,)
With the dense population on the east coast, some will get hurt! But,I hope not!
Good luck.
Mike.

Don't drink up all your beer before the storm. You're about a day off

Be safe everyone.

I had envisioned a little more drama overnight from the outer bands but so far we're just getting some much needed rain and some wind.

Re: Hurricane Irene!!

We had a death here, 9 year old boy, tree fell on his house. The worst of the storm will be between now and 10:00 PM. Still have power but I expect it to go out any minute. Flooding won't be an issue for us but I am concerned about a tree behind my garage. The tree is far enough away from the house to not be an issue there.
