Rear Anti-sway bar worth it on C20?

Hey fellas, I have an 85 C20 Silverado, and it has the front sway bar. Its a camper special.

I was wondering, she has 4 brand new bfgoodrich load rating E tires which I hoped would help cornering (although Idont race the truck lol). Has anyone ever put a rear anti swaybar on their truck and did it help with overall handling and driveability?

Re: Rear Anti-sway bar worth it on C20?

I had a 77 c20 with the deluxe camper package and factory rear sway bar;It worked well with the camper;did not notice any difference when the truck was empty ...the springs on a c20 are fairly stiff when unloaded.

All the one ton dually pickups came standard with a rear sway bar ...I think the target market was campers and with all that weight up high a rear sway bar would help the handling.

I always was going to take most of the rear leafs out and put 1/2 ton springs in the front of one of our crewcabs and see how it rode and handled but we never did it....has anyone else tried that.

That's a real nice, clean looking truck! Yes, a rear sway bar will help.

I couldnt see a rear sway bar making an overly dramatic difference with hauling what you got behind you in that pic. If you had a heck of alot of weight in the form of a tippy camper I'd say for sure you could benefit from a set. All your weight is gonna be low on your rear end I'd spend the money elsewhere. I guess it would makke a difference in high speed cornering for sure though.

I don't know about the rear swaybar, but I do know that when the bushings on my front swaybar were worn out the truck cornered not very well, so you might check your front bushings just to be sure. I got the blue bushings from the local auto parts store and I think they might have been poly bushings - made a big difference. Mostly I have heard/seen rear swaybars on motorhomes and pickups with truck campers. AIRC, the aftermarket ones are pricey but effective.

Thanks all for the replies.

My front bushings are in fact worn out. I may look into a new set. Thanks!

The rear sway bar is never present in any of the 1 ton trucks i see in the junkyards in So cal...I'd like to put one in my 1/2 ton to compliment the 1.25" front bar.

Re: Rear Anti-sway bar worth it on C20?

oh boy. ok here we go. sway bars help stop side to side movement or "roll" so lets say u haul pallets all day.. yes a sway bar would do wonders... that boat is gonna wanna keep the rear solid... so if u haul her more then lets say pallets...id look into the firestone ride rite system. very user friedly and make for for pulling and leveling stability. but yes. a swaybar (anti sway bay) will improve handeling no matter what, empty. full loaded unloaded or resting on the overloads haha. swaybars shold b factory on everythibg however that costs money and peiple like to save it for some reason. so will a performance add on add performance? YES.
