Is this an oil pressure port?

Is this plug (center of the picture, with a square head) a port that can be used for an oil pressure sender? It's a 350 small block; the plug is in the top of the block, just behind the water pump.

Thanks,
Richard

Re: Is this an oil pressure port?

Can be used for one....
It's the cross drilling between the main bearing's oil galley and passenger side lifter's oil supply galley.

Re: Is this an oil pressure port?

Thanks. The one by the distributor is already in use for the oil pressure gauge, and I want to use the one above the oil filter for my electric choke wiring if I can get the plug out, but it's in a pretty confined space with the engine in the truck and headers installed. We'll see how it goes.

Yes it is.

That is a sure way to ID the block is a 4-bolt main block as well.

Wink Re: Is this an oil pressure port?

Mine has the backup oil pressure switch in it for the fuel pump relay. If the fuel pump relay fails this will keep voltage supplied to the pump as long as I have @ least 5PSI of oil.
I shold have wiped it off before I took the picture!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I'll have to disagree with this one. I have a plug there and mine is only a 2-bolt main block. I have an allen headed plug instead of a square headed plug, but I don't think that should matter.

I would agree.

Thought it was a true sign of a 4 bolt from previous post.
The 1967 C10 I parted with a 283 has one but not a 4 bolt block, wish it was.

Re: Is this an oil pressure port?

Thanks, guys. As usual I learn something from this forum every day. I have no idea whats underneath the orange paint on my engine, except that it's not original to the truck (no serial number), and it runs a whole lot better that I would expect a stock 350 to run.

Re: Is this an oil pressure port?

Back in the early 80's when I worked in a machine shop I won and seen many a case of beer lost by those that thought this # or that #, or this indicator could indicate a 4 bolt sb chevy. The only indicator was pulling the pan..

On a big block it was the huge pipe plug above the filter that indicated a 4 bolt but as I understand it later blocks can have the small plug and be 4bm's now days.
