Loud clank!!

Whenever I shift into reverse there is a loud clank. Does anyone know what this is caused by? Does anyone else have it? Only when you shift into reverse. A guy I work with has a 79 and it does the same thing, although his is alot louder than mine. It sounds like it comes from the rear end.

I don't know if this is you are not but tighten the top bolt on the trans mount at the rear of your trans.

Another common problem is when someone changes out the trans and leaves the washer off this bolt (it is hard to install). 'Causes big problems down the road. I think it breaks the case.

My truck make this same noise when shifting into reverse and drive. From what I've been told, it is normal. I could see the driveshaft turn a bit when someone else put it in reverse---I think that's what the noise is made from.

Low,
My '84 C-10 only does that if that bolt gets loose on the trans.
I would check your bolt as I have seen this fix quite a few of our trucks with a clunk going from park or drive to reverse.
it is a very easy fix.
