Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
I found a short wheel base frame for $150. It has the trailing arms and the rear end but no axles. The A arms are missing also. I have not seen the frame in person But I am told it is solid. I am just curious if this is a reasonable price.

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
I'd buy it without even trying to dicker. If I needed one I'd pay 2x that easy. A few months ago I paid $400 for a frame and SWB bedsides and I thought that was a good deal.

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
Scrap metal is about $15 per 100 lbs so it won't get much cheaper than that. Buy it.

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
G, in our area those are hard to find. I have been scouring the Little Rock C-list as well as the others in the state and surrounding areas for months and they are hard to find. The ones I have found were rolling with beds on them but for the most part they were useless. I found my truck frame two weeks ago by a man stopping by my shop and asking if I still needed one but it was the whole truck. Fortunatly I traded two used up car shells for it so I could'nt tell you what they are bringing right now, But I'd say that he's not out of line if you need it. If it is not rolling, maybe you could use the later model truck crossmember and rear to get 5 lug stuff. Jim

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
If they are good, the trailing arms are worth the $150. I'd pay up to $300 for a good bare frame and $500 for a rolling frame. I paid $1,000 for mine with 4/6 drop, new brakes/steering/suspension,and it had been painted. It had primer over spray and bondo dust on it so I cleaned and painted again.
Prices at least double for a short 4wd frame due to rarity.

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
I got $250 for mine not too long ago. I had it listed for 300, but the guy asked if I'd take 200 if I kept the wheels and tires. It had 3 different kind of wheels, and only 3 of the tires held air, and I wanted them gone, too, so I countered with 250 and he takes them. It kinda hit us both at the same time that we were dickering over who got stuck with 4 junk wheels and tires, and after a good laugh, I said fine, 250 and I'll keep the wheels and tires.
Sure enough, he come and drug it up on his trailer then popped off those dang wheels and hauled it off sitting on the drums.

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
I just paid $300 to have my frame straightened, so I'd say it's at least worth $300

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
Well I went and picked up the frame yesterday. It is just what the guy said. Everything looks solid. The only bad was the cross member that holds the carrier bearing looks like a beaver had been chewing on it. I guess the previous owner of the truck was running a one piece drive shaft but was not much on metal working. The guy that I got the frame from has a pretty nice air cab he is trying to sell. Its a solid cab but the same beaver that got the cross member whittled out the radio hole. Someone could probably get it for somewhere between $300-$400. I could probably put someone in touch with him if interested. Anyway thanks for all the good info on prices.

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
You got a good buy there. SWB frames go for $500 all day long in most places. Bare frames are still $300 typically.

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
I traded one for a running 5.3, if I had known they go for that much I could have negotiated the 4L60E out of the deal....no wonder the guy jumped on the trade so quick....lol

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
Up here I bet I could get a grand easy. No one will buy my box for 2k, but they ask me about a frame constantly.

Re: Reasonable price for short wheel base frame?
I'm thinking about going back to the junkyard and grabbing a 68 SWB frame I saw there. They get $185 for it...
