Steering column HELP!!
I have been trying to change out my turn signal/wiper/cruise lever for two days now. My Chiltons, and Haynes both say that this part of the column can be removed to change this out, but how in the heck do you get it off? I have tried a little prying with a screw driver, but I don't want to break anything.
Can anyone tell me how to get this cover off Here's a view from the bottom

I really think it doesn't come off. You have to dig your way through the column to get to it. I need to replace mine as well, so I'm in the same boat. There is how to get to it: http://home.t-online.de/home/O_Scholz/steering.html

I got all the way down to the turn signal switch, and I can't figure out how to get the signal stalk out of the column. The wires look like they go down deeper in to the column, and that web site in the post above is not real clear how to unplug the signal stalk to get it out. It just says pull it from the column. Unless I am missing something. Here is the wire I am talking about

Chris,
I took the steering wheel off of my 75 last year and had it apart as far as the turn signal. If memory serves, the turn signal wires unplug, and then you turn the connector sideways and slide it up the little channel in the bottom of the steering column. I'm pretty sure you had to remove the steering wheel to get to the screw holding the switch in place. Brian |

We it kinda does :
"If you're going to remove/replace either the turn signal switch or the wiper switch, remove the four bolts shown in the picture below, and the harness protector. You can fiddle connector and harness through the column even if it doesn't seem like it will fit. It will. When you reassemble, these bolts have to be put back in in the right order, and torqued to spec. Check the Helms manual for the recommended torque values for your vehicle."

I finally got it out, and put the new one in. apstguy is right, I had to remove those four bolts in order to fish the wire through the column.
The bad news is that it did not fix my problem with the wipers cycling everytime I turn on the ignition. Oh well, back to the drawing board

I narrowed it down too. I checked to see if my washer pump still works and it does. The switch doesn't but the pump does. Check my post: http://64.246.42.114/vboard/showthre...threadid=48488
That means it is the delay module! Replace the delay module with a new one and the phantom wipers should go away!
