Corina Patina 65 low rider

Well here we go again, we pulled the baby blue 65 C10 in the shop, removed the running boards, cut the bed bolts loose so we could remove the bed and wouldn't you know it some enterprising farmer had tack welded the bed crossmembers to the frame stancions on the rh side. so we could not set the bed on the ground.......oh well will send pictures tomorrow.

Kieth working on a chevy now.........but I did find a 66 gmc lwb fleetside custom the other day, am working on buying it......

Bed is a little worse for wear, cut the bolts and the PO had welded the front 2 bed crossmembers to the frame brackets.

Stuck a battery in , put some gas in the carb and Corina fired right up. Now we may just leave the 6 banger in her....if it is good. Got the bridge kit in, laid it out, getting ready to start welding her in.

Step 1. move the center crossmember back 1.5" for fenderwell clearance.

step 2. remove coil springs, shocks, panhard rod.

step 3. weld in the first part of the bridge

It is just a 230, I found a nv3500 for it (5 speed OD) but do not know if it will pull the OD or not, worst case we will try it if the engine does not have enough umph I have a 250 I6 -- wish I had a 292 but oh well or could find a 350 to put in it, I am trying to really do this build on a strict budget so am trying to purchase very few items.......Kieth

I have a buddy (named Keith ) that used a T-5 behind a 230 in a 64 C10 and it did just fine. So using my superior deductive powers of reasoning, the NV3500 / O.D. gear should be no problem.

My mom was only 17 when I was born, she was under sedation when they asked her to spell Kieth, she got it wrong, but it is that way on my birth certificate. When I went to 1st grade the teacher sent a note home telling her that I was spelling my name incorrectly. She sent a note bac telling her that I could spell my name XYZ if we wanted and it was none of her D.... business , so the spelling stuck. I use it on all forums because no one else spells it that way. Thanks for the heads up on the NV3500.....I just need to figure out the hydraulic clutch issues which I think are easier than the issues with the T5 and we will be ready to make the change. Kieth

Started removing crossmembers, checking the layout, etc......one thing we are doing a little different is making sure we move the rear end back 1.5" so the larger diameter tires and wheels will clear the lip of the fenderwell. We are experimenting with ways to do this easily so I can make those changes to my 66 gmc with as few surprises as possible.

Grinding rivets lots of work, and we lowered the axle so it touches the frame to check for the center point of the suspension as it rotates through it range of motion.

Kieth - I've had similar issues with my name "Scot". I tell folks it was because the hospital I was born in charged by the letter on the birth certificate. My parents didn't have much money back then, so with the hospital bills and all - they could only afford one "T" for my first name and had to change the spelling of my middle name from "Allen" to "Alan".

Quite sad.

got some more done today, got interupted quite a bit, oh a few hints to those who try and do this, the 4 main bridge pieces have a front and back and a left and right set, the front leg is shorter since that part of the frame is higher, the back set of legs are longer since the frame dives away.
My idea for moving the rear axle back has been put on hold, the bridges would not properly line up so we moved them to the standard axle position. We well try and move the axle back after the bridge is installed, it looks to have enough clearance to go bact 1 to 1.5" will let you know.

This is what we did as we went along:

Trial fit to see what has to be removed:

Startd to remove rivets, welded a cross brace in for support.

Started clean up and made notches where bridges sit



notches ready for tack welding and fit up

continued down the road to slam Corina today, We finally figured out a lot of things, made some mistakes, corrected them , and finally got everything leveled, square, and tacked in place. Hooked Corina up and took her over to the welding shop (sometimes you just have to know your limits)

11. We finally gave up and just tacked the darn things together, way too much drama trying to figure out how to tack it on the truck. You never had anything that was square as a referece, we finally layed everything out on a soldid bench and tacked the bridges together. Here is the Passenger side trial fit. we did way too much trial fit

14. checking both sides for position in relation to the center of the axle and for level. We finally figured out that by having the bridge tacked we could square the bridge to the outside of the frame, make sure it was centered on the axle and check it across to the other bridge to make sure they were level and square. It worked (we were lucky the frame was sitting on jack stands and the frame itself was level across the top, so we worked everything in relation to that and the outside of the frame , let the inner legs sit where they may because it did not matter......

I love it when a plan comes together, now I just hope it goes down the road straight when the welded gets finished.......

Just a little update, got the bridges installed:

Blocked it up to what will later be a normal ride height, but that will change since we are installing a 2" spaced betweet the rear end and the trailing arm.



Mocking up the new Holland panhard rod and the air bags. The parhard bar was only $30.00 think I will have to look for some more tractor parts for Corina.

Looking good! Good deal on such a nice panhard bar!!! SO is it new and intended for tractors? The cheap adjustable ones are normally 40-60 for our trucks so this is an alternative...how long is it (shortest and longest it can go)?
And SUPER deal on the rims!

24 "- 40"----I just wanted to try it.....and see how it works, I am going to need another one for my 66 gmc so needed to hold the cost down.

Much beefier and nicer ends than the cheaper adjustable ones for our truck so definitely a good option.
