Re: do driveshaft angle cause roar noise

In general, no. Bad angles can cause vibrations but not usually noises.
The fact that it only does it under throttle would lead me to worn ring and pinion gears. If it were a bearing, the sound would be pretty much constant.
Pop it open and have a look, it could use a change of lube anyway. That is one of the most neglected maintenence items on nearly any vehicle.

Re: do driveshaft angle cause roar noise

The rears are precision and rigid mounted. The only noises caused by too steep of a driveshaft angle would be in the u-joints. If it's causing a noise in your rear then it's a bad pinion bearing or pinion causing enough slop from the added stress of a steep angle to put it off center.

Re: do driveshaft angle cause roar noise

What does your angle look like? You may have some axle wrap as well and causing your angles to get way out of whack when on the gas. I would also check out your u-joints they are most likely the problem and need changed

Edit: did you just lift it and it started making noise? are your front hubs locked in? I had a bad front driveline in my old 84 shortbox, it was worn out in the slip portion and made some knarly noises

Re: do driveshaft angle cause roar noise

No I bought it already lifted I did have to put a universal joint in front driver side axle and I put manual locking hubs the noise sounds like it is coming from under my seat the th400 trans. Had water in fluid looked like pepto bismol so I put in a trans cooler and bypassed radiator then completly flushed trans. It almost sounds like it is coming from trans

Re: do driveshaft angle cause roar noise

Try pulling the front driveline and see if it goes away. What t-case are you running?

Re: do driveshaft angle cause roar noise

I had to build a 2"longer rear driveshaft when I lifted a '72 6". Should be the same.Maybe yours needs to be longer causing the slip yoke to not slide in the transfer case far enough.

Re: do driveshaft angle cause roar noise

My transmission was hitting the side of the hole in the dog house only when I was on the throttle making a roar kind of gear whine. Opened the hole and it went away.

Re: do driveshaft angle cause roar noise

Yes the shifter hole in the dog house. I have 2. 1 for the tranny and 1 for the transfer case. When I swapped mine over to a standard years back I made a hole just clear the top of the transmission. Looked great, nice and neat. But when I finished the whole thing and drove it, it whined like no tomorrow when on the throttle. I don't mean really hard on the throttle just normal driving. The torque of the motor was twisting the tranny and hitting the doghouse. So you had metal to metal contact that acted like an amplifier. It had a lot of gear whine and sounded like right under your seat like yours. It's like holding a screwdriver to the valve cover to listen. It just amplifies it. So I pulled the carpet back up and trimmed the hole open more and noise was gone. I have a 79 short bed with 6 inch lift and have no drive train noise from angles. That's what it sounds like to me but... Hope this helps.

Re: do driveshaft angle cause roar noise

Right but what about the 4 wheel drive shifter or the torque arm? If it is hitting the doghouse it will make that noise. Or anything else that it touching the tranny, transfer case and touching the cab will transfer the noise and amplify it. I don't know but worth checking.

Torque converter. Had the same issue in a car application. The torrington bearing inside was kaput! Only did it when on the throttle. I cut the converter apart and it was obvious-the bearing surface was chewed up and blue from the heat of the failed bearing.
