wiperblade life span?
so i'm on my 4th set of wiper blades as of today on my 01 tahoe, and i only got it last year. how long should wiper blades last? one thing that i do fairly often is i take it through a drive through car wash and get the high end wash. could the wax from the car wash be effecting my wiper blades? and the ones that i usually go with are the anco blades, well because they are cheap and i trust almost everything that comes from federal mogual. the set that i put on today are a set of rain-x, not the expensive ones though

Re: wiperblade life span?
Before you throw away another set. Try cleaning them with #0000 steelwool. It helps mine alot. It takes the dirt and wax off and seems like it sharpens them too. Might be worth a try. Steelwool's cheaper than wiper blades.

Re: wiperblade life span?
We have food in the refrigerator older than that One of the disadvantages of getting old is remembering when a set of wiper blades would probably last 5 - 10 years. I put a set of Anco blades on my truck 5 months ago and they are currently junk. They are making them from crap material so you replace them more often which makes them more profit and a fat bonus for the CEO

Re: wiperblade life span?
6 monthes is it, period. Hotter climates, really destroy, them faster.
I used to sell auto parts. Folks complained about the 6 month interval. Nothing on the market lasts much longer. The expensive one's are a waster of $$$ to me. I use Anco |

Re: wiperblade life span?
well that seems to be my problem, they aren't lasting six months. i think its more in the 3-5 month range. and i would hand wash my tahoe if it wasn't such a PITA to scrub the top of it. i'll give the steelwool trick a shot when these start smearing. now that its getting to be the rainy season here i only wash my tahoe once every month or two, when it isn't raining. so since anco's are junk, who makes a decently priced set thats of better quality, but not the price of the rain-x's. and i'm kinda leary on any of the rain-x products today. they just don't seem to work as well for me as they should

Re: wiperblade life span?
I've heard of using steel wool. Polishing the edges w/ ultrafine sand paper, supposedly helps (I've never tries the sand paper)
I bought a set of the newest Anco's, around a year ago, they didn't last any longer, or work any better than the regular anco's. I buy the blade assemblies, they are a part number that starts w/ a 31-__ A 18" would be 31-18. 20" a 31-20. These are Anco's basic wiper blades. NOTHING is as cheap anymore as it should be. THere are cheaper blades that these anco products, but the quality is less than anco, my opinion.... |

Re: wiperblade life span?
I put a set of Boschs on my mazda and they've lasted over a year now. When the start peforming poorly I just take and damp paper towel and clean the blade extra well.

Re: wiperblade life span?
Keep in mind the amount of rainfall is much higher in different areas and the blades will be used a lot more thus wearing faster. My last set came from wal-mart under the Michelin brand. They work well probably last between 6-9 months maybe longer. I dont care much Because they are like 6 bucks each.

Re: wiperblade life span?
I use Bosch wiper blades and RainX windshield washer fluid. 2years in the AZ sun.
Use your washer fluid about once a month and it will keep the wipers lubed

Re: wiperblade life span?
I live in Ky, so during the summer months, it is humid/dry/wet/cold/hot all in one week. I will normally get a full year out of my wiper blades-I always buy winter ones with the blue caps-I think they are $5 a piece
They are cheap enough to buy 4 sets of cheapos for what you would spend on a brand name. I keep 2 spare sets in my vehicle during trips- and in the winter I keep 2 ice scrapers and a gallon of ice melter The wipers on my 67 f100 have been there since 1998, and they worked fine until this last winter, hit a piece of ice on the glass and it peeled the blades right off |

Re: wiperblade life span?
So far the best wiper blades that I've had on my 2005 2500HD are Good Year Advantage which I found at Costco for $7.99 each they've been on my truck for about a year and still wipe clear and in western Md we have hot summers and bad winters. Also every now and then wipe them off with an achohol pad.

Re: wiperblade life span?
So I just replaced my wiper blades last Monday and they are already starting to streak and smear. Wth man?! They clear up with a shot from my windshield washer for about 5 passes then go back to smearing and streaking. Any ideas?

Re: wiperblade life span?
ok so i figured out what has been causing me to replace wiperblades like toilet paper. its my windshield. its pitted enough to eat wiper blades as if they were candy. so i have a quote on a replacement windshield. as of right now its $215. does that sound fairly reasonable for a replacement windshield for an 01 tahoe?
