'70 Steering Column--rebuild or buy new?

I knew it needed work, but a closer inspection last night showed the column needs EVERYTHING--it's amazing anything works on it. It's an automatic column shift, non-tilt.

Neutral safety switch, horn parts, turn signal parts, flasher knob, bearings, etc. etc.

I'm thinking it may be more cost effective to just get a new or rebuilt column. Is anyone familiar with this economy model listed in Classic Performance Products? Looks like Ecklers has the same thing as well for about the same price. Non-original, but I'm not concerned with that. As long as it bolts up and can hold up for the 300-500 miles per year I generally drive it, it'll be fine.

Any opinions on these?

This sounds even better, from a reply I just got from Gary's Classic GM Parts & steering column rebuilding. For $200 plus about $20 shipping:

"Includes: Complete tear down sandblast repaint (GM Factory Black), new electronics, rework or replace bearings. Comes back with lifetime warranty."

Hey Lafayette--used to live there and work out of Intracoastal City, back in the 80's.

I have an email out to KevsClassic about getting a rebuild done, or a price on a tilt column.

I priced out individual parts, and it seems at this point you can't beat Gary's Classic GM Parts, especially with the warranty they have...

Hey Regular guy, you moved to the big city eh?

If the 200 buck rebuild is the one everybodies talking about, that does seem like a good deal. Wonder if they require a core charge, or if its just
outright? (DD, kind of needing a steering column.)

Man, I miss Lafayette--good food, good times. Gotta get back to visit!!

I think that price is the cost of rebuilding your column--you send it in. Of course you pay to ship it to them, so maybe you can add another 20-25 bucks to the total cost...

Yes, I decided to go with Kev. I'm buying a rebuilt tilt from him; I'd rather spend a bit extra and know what I'm getting, versus taking a chance with something else.
