2004 GMC 1500 Steering Column Question
I am not having any problems with the steering of the truck, but there is a odd noise when I am going slower than 20-25 mph and turning, its like a slight knock/ rattle. Has this happened to anyone else and if so do you know a solution?

Re: 2004 GMC 1500 Steering Column Question
Take the intermediate steering shaft loose form the lower steering shaft, Work the intermediate shaft in & out about 15 times, This will redistribute the grease in the shaft.

Re: 2004 GMC 1500 Steering Column Question
This is a very common problem on Chev/GMC trucks over the past 10 years.
There are numerous fixes found online. The one above, stroking the ISS, will work for awhile if the problem is fresh. This was the fix the dealer used on mine while it was still on warranty. That lasted 20,000 kms and the problem was back, so I did it again. This time it did not last long. Last spring I decided to change the shaft on mine. Took me an hour and it is much better. I bought the GM replacement shaft. Some guys online have taken the shaft out, pulled it apart and then put it back together with silicone instead of grease. I decided if I was going to the trouble to remove it I would replace it. Borgeson makes a replacement ISS, Borgeson 000937, that some seem to think is better. http://www.jegs.com/i/Borgeson/153/000937/10002/-1
