Looking for alternative radio mounting options

I looking for ideas on where to mount my radio and not cut up my dash. If you have pictures or a just a good description of what you did I would sure appreciate it. I am going to put a radio delete plate over the original radio opening. I am considering places like: glove box, under the seat, build an overhead console, under dash etc.. I want it to look good and would really like to hide it so someone doesn't see it and break in and steal it.

I mounted mine in the center console of my Blazer. Sits vertically using one of these - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1209990...t.html?tp=2114. (You could use the universal kit to mount under your dash and only have to put a couple of holes in the bottom side of the dash. )

Since the head unit says not to mount vertically for the CD Player (The guys at the stereo store said that the issue with mounting it vertically is the eject motor will burn out because it isn't designed to push that much weight. It also skips easier.), I also put in a 6 disc changer.

The end result looks something like the photo below. This isn't mine but it is where I saw the idea.

I had the same setup as Bouncy. The stock radio was installed so it looked factory (plus I didn't have a radio delete). The unit I bought could be mounted vertically. worked out great.

You don't have a problem with heat build up inside the console do you? Seems like it would need a vent and a fan.

a late model radio just seems out out of place on a vintage chevy IMO. i do like the custom fit stereos with the factory style knobs that give you hookups for mp3, etc.

but if you truly want the nut and bolt restoration look....you can get a factory am/fm fortified with a digital tuner and an aux input for playing your tunes.

For 650 bucks you can almost do a whole system. The radio looks very cool though. Like the dials that match the wiper and lights dials.

I plan on doing the old style in dash(fake ) setup with a modern radio,cd player mounted in console,which I will be fabricating out of fiberglass later. I have very detailed layout for highend stereo hopefully w/o super highend price. Have time and little money so shopping is not problem

I have been driving these old trucks for thye better part of 25 years i stated out in a 1965 3/4 ton truck.I was so big on not cutting the dash.But now days I don't care the old radio is like the drum brakes or bias tires we all or some of us have to grow up I live and work in these trucks and just for once i like to have something nice that i can reach and not have to pull over for to take out a skipping CD.I'm as factory as they come when it comes to my trucks all 11 of them.I will never run a fuel injected motor unless they out law the carbs in my st6ate of CA any thing can happen here.

So many people put so many mods on there truck the radio wont matter to much it is a major thing i had to think about for 6 years but i'm not buying a 400.00 dual nob Kenwood that i bought one back in 1990 for 80.00

I got a unit from a company called classic stereo. I see them at swap meets and car shows. It is made to fit in the original hole, and works great. Mine has been in my truck about 8 years.

I just removed this radio from my Blazer last week and installed it in the dash type. It is the third one in 18 years and worked fine under the dash. It was close by and easy to use for the drive.

Here's what I did in my K5. I uesd the factory bolts that hold the A/C-heater control box in the dash. I built the box out of mdf and carpeted it. It works great and the radio is within arms reach.
