Need help: Suspect bum NOS ebay purchase

This was billed as a NOS cargo lamp/lens/gasket from an ebay seller. The lamp assembly has surface rust that would conform to the rubber grommets that attach it to the cab and some white corrosion on one of the electrical connectors. Also, the rubber gasket lacks a GM part number. Anyone seen a NOS assembly in like condition or a NOS gasket that lacks a part number? I haven't.

Thanks for looking.

Me too. I think it's a used part but am in disagreement with the seller. As far as I know the assembly gaskets had part numbers.

Looks like you got burned, unfortunately there are people today that think, everything that looks old is "NOS".

Someone posted a close up of that same gasket a week or so ago and it had a part number. That housing has definitely been mounted, I.E. not NOS.

rust on the screw holes indicate that to me...

and on the gasket I haven't seen an original or NOS without the part number so that looks aftermarket...

what did you pay?
i'd contact the seller and start off asking what he/she thinks NOS even means.

Re: Need help: Suspect bum NOS ebay purchase

Definitely an outright misrepresentation. It's "used" and the gasket is reproduction. Asking a dishonest person any questions will no doubt bring a dishonest answer. Report the S.O.B.,give negative feedback,or whatever. It doesn't matter what you paid,it's an auction and the seller doesn't determine the price. Their job is to give honest info.
Who was it? Post a thread in Bad Deals so others can check there before bidding.

Re: Need help: Suspect bum NOS ebay purchase

The online pics were not detailed enough to see the flaws/lack of part number. If they were I wouldn't have purchased the item. I've purchased many NOS and used parts from ebay and all were accurately described. I haven't had a problem previously.

Thanks to all your your input. I appreciate it.

What has the seller said? If he didn't know he may just return it and you'll be out the shipping... Fair enough to me, the pictures should of shown the rust marks...

Re: Need help: Suspect bum NOS ebay purchase

The seller probably doesn't even know the true meaning of the term NOS (New Old Stock). To them it probably means any old part. NOS stuff "should" come in the factory packaging too. Unless noted by the seller.

File a protest with Ebay first. They will hold the return payment until you return it with a tracking number. Once it's returned to the seller, you will get a full refund including the initial shipping charge. Ebay will side in your favor for sure.
Sorry for the bad deal. There are a few out there that try to scam and deceive.

Re: Need help: Suspect bum NOS ebay purchase

After some back and forth the seller has agreed to a full refund. The lamp is on its way back as of today. Lesson learned.

Here's some of our correspondence that suggests he knows what a NOS part is as distinct from a used part:

Me:

I received my items today. The gasket lacks a GM part # and is
therefore an aftermarket piece not NOS as you advertised. Also, the lens
assembly showed evidence of being used like rust where the mounting bolts
attach to the rubber grommets on the cab. Please refund my money and I will
send this back to you. The parts are not as described.

Seller:

...thanks for the email. I am sorry you are not
happy with the part. It is NOS just as described in the auction. Not all
parts have the GM number stamped into them and the base has never been
mounted. You may have wanted a perfect part and this was not but it is New
Old Stock. Did you email before you bid with any condition concerns? If you
did and I mislead you please send me a copy of that email and I will make
it right. If not feel free to send the part back and I will sell it to the
second place bidder you will only be responsible for shipping both ways,
thanks...
