Finally!
Well guys, After buying my truck in September and it sitting around while me and my pops built a shop. I finally got to put it in the shop today and WORK ON IT! I got the bed and the rear bumper off. Damn some of those bumper bolts are a pain!
just wanted to vent my exitment! '71

That was worth the wait...I am still waiting on my shop. It is nice to work out of the weather. Those bumper bolts are the best argument in the world for a good oxy-aceytlene torch! When you put new ones on treat them to some anti-sieze...LOL! I have broken several sockets on suspension bolts and bumper bolts. Even for free it is a pain to take the time to go to Sears. Fire up the torch and be done with them.

I feel your pain - LOL. I've had a few bumper bolts that were almost like they were welded. I almost broke my arm (seriously) when a socket broke and slipped off while trying to remove a rear bumper at a local junk yard a few years back.
That was not a fun experience to say the least. Congratulations on getting started on your truck!! Roberty

Wow, you live in Kent eh? Only a couple stones throws from here! I live in the San Juan Islands, all day trip to get to Sears. hehe
'71 PS. Thanks Roberty! Glad you didn't hurt your arm any worse! woulda sucked the big one' I was using a hella heavy duty 1/2 inch drive socket with a 4 ft cheater bar and between praying that nothing would break and that i wouldn't smash my hand and cussing at the dang thing, it finally gave way!

Ummm.. dissassemble, sandblast, paint, might bag it, but most likely i'll just go with a ECE 2.5/4 drop. Keep it mostly stock, no wild mods or anything. It's got 67,504 miles on it, so that makes me want to keep itm ostly original.

Are those the original cab corners and rockers? I've never seen those before. Nice truck!

Yep! they're original. The corners are perfect/rust free. The rockers both have rust spots though and will need to be replaced. The door bottoms also have a small amount of rust. It dosen't have an excessive amount of rust, but some in the usual places.. It definately could be worse

Man I remember trying to get my bumper bolts off!!! I got my truck after it had been sitting outside for a while. I had to fight off some black widows with some raid ( those f#$kers don't like to go down without a fight). I sprayed the bolts with liquid wrench and banged on 'em. I figured that would work. Nope I had to use a big ol' breaker bar with a tube for torque to break it loose. Then bolt got so hot as I was undoing it it broke in half!! I never had a bolt that big break in half on me before!! I was only using my rachets when it broke. Craftsman rachets won the appreciation award for me that day. Thank god I didn't break my arm or my rachets.

nasty bolts
Big bolts I heat cherry red with a torch & they come right off. Smaller ones I continue to tighten until they break. To me screws are the worst because you usually have to be careful of what they're holding on. Valve lapping compund on a scredriver tip will give it more gription.......Zoomy
