250 / 700r4 combo in a my 51 3800 series pick-up

I have finally finished the disc brake swap, and by the way thanks to everyone who helped , Ill be glad to give anyone the photos, and parts list -it really was not that hard- just had to figure it out.
Now i have a nice 250 six, and I have spoken for a 700r4 trans. I like the granny 4 speed , and the 235 runs ok, but the later combo just makes more sense to me. Has anyone run this in a 3/4 or 1 ton pick up. I dont want a race car , I have 3, but I would like to be able to pull mine to the race track.
Also will the auto column shifter from a car ( EARLY 50'S) year work on my stock column, or could I adapt the 3 speed truck( collumn shifter) ? I have seen this done on some other stuff and it looked really good, and stock. I really dont want to change the collumn, and I would like for it to look stock as possible.

I will gladly send the photos ( email them) and the parts list . Every time I try to post pictures etc, I mess it up . Not likely the computer either - more like the dummy running it. The list is all napa except for the rear brakets( from blackbird- or Virginia 4x4) ( for the 14 bolt - same 3 5/16 bolt pattern - for real). Had to make the front bracket - used the speedway half ton bracket as a pattern, ( if I did it you know it was easy) , Ghost rider- hamb board) did the dual vette mastercylinder bracket, and when i say it bolts in and lines up -it does. 2 lb residuals from speedway and their their proportioning valve, the rest is for real from napa- my napa store here in Houston MS went way out of there way to help.
Be glad to share the info. Now has anyone run this drive train - I have actually raced this ( 250/292 for years )- sold my blower motor to a guy in the denver area - said he was going to put it in a 55 and raise - well you know> , but i have never used the 700r4 behind it . Any one done this///
Also - i really like my cross member , and would like to keep it , any one know if it will clear ? I know tom langdon at stove bolt sells the motor mounts ,figure I would use a stock trans cross member for the 3 speed ( inclosed truck -for that) or a universal.I figure that I would use the swing bearing and shorten the stock ( trans side) drive shaft - its not giving any trouble so ////
Any ideas - bounce them off - you are not going to hurt my feelings.

imdangerous - i am starting to work on a 1949 1-ton and am very interested in your front brake mod. I am trying to do the same thing you want/did to yours. disk brakes all around update engine/tranny/gears. I have a 228 that is cracked and SM402 4 speed granny.
I just purchased a 14 bolt SRW with 4.11s that I hope to find some C&C hubs for, then install discs onto it.
I am still reading and researching the best engine tranny combo that will fit with the least amount of modifications.
I also want to replace the split rims with some nice tubeless rim and tires - which seems to be harder than I first thought given the limited fender width, its the 9 ft bed with fenders...
If your still out there and have the build pics I sure could use them...

I have pics I can send( text to you or Email) .For wheels you can actually use the 92 and up dodge LE 250-350 wheels - came from on cummins model.I welded the clips on and the stock hub caps clip on but you have to watch the back ones with the factory HO 72 rear. The hubs ( floating axle sticks out and barley hits them on the inside) are a tad to long considered puting the bolts in mill and turning down the top about a 1/4 but havent yet. The late 14 bolt may not stick out as much. I have photos of the front and rear set up . MC bracket came from a fellow named Ghostrider - nice piece for a fair price - worked great .
