Roll bar
Can someone get me the height and dimensions of a stock roll bar and what diameter is it? what size are the plates on the feet? I am thinking about making a few of them for a couple buddies. Thanks for the help.

Roll bars didn't come from the factory. They were aftermarket. Should have a 4 point "Smitty Built" in a few days and I'll provide you with some dimensions.

The original roll bars were built by Hickey Enterprises, not smitty.
Mine has the original dealer installed roll bar in it. They weren't optional per say, but could be ordered and installed via dealer upon delivery of the blazer. That's how mine was done anyway. It still has the "H.E." stamp on the top (Hickey Enterprises) Stamped as "HE-K5-052 BLAZER" These are what is considered the original blazer roll bars. I would think if you do a search you might find one of my threads that had pictures and dimensions of the bar, as this question was asked before. It's been a long while though. |

This will be difficult to explain but I'll try.....
Starting at the front portion of the bar, on the floor. It comes up 18" following fairly tight against the inner panel, then makes it's first slight bend inward, just about where the top bolts on. I'd say maybe 5 degrees. Then continues another 19" towards the roof before making it's bend to go accross the roof. It spans accross the roof 44" But the distance between posts on the floor is 59" (inside to inside) The square plates are 5" x 5" plates. They are offset on the front portion of the bar. The rear bars (or down bars) are welded to the plates in the center. Those plates are bolted to the forward portion of the wheel well arches, and pass right by the armrests of the back seat. Eyeballing the diameter of the bar with a tape measure (that's all I have handy at the moment) the bar appears to be 1 3/4" diameter. Here are some pics of the factory bar, out of the truck and installed to get an idea. Hope this helps. |

Thanks, how tall is it from the floor to the top of the bar? also what thickness are the plates?
Is that a 71 or 72 chevelle in the background?

The bar from the floor to the very top of the bar measures 41 3/4".
It's bolted through the carpet however, that may have it sitting slightly higher but not much difference. It's still a solid 2" from the bottom of the roof however. The plates look to be 1/8" thick. Not heavy duty by any means. Hard to measure because they are bolted to the carpet. The chevelle is a 72 SS 454. Sorry about that, I have a hard time taking pics without other cars wanting to sneak in |

Thanks for the measurements. I will be building a few of them soon. I think im gonna make it to where the slanted bars bolt on instead of welding it solid.
Gonna have to see if i can make them blend in, that way they arent such a pain to ship. My best friend in high school got a 71' chevelle that had a 402 in it, someone stole the carb off of it and it sat for a while, had some old school m/t street slicks 14" wide. We got in ALOT of trouble with that car.
