widest wheel and spacing

i have a 68 c20 that i am converting to 1/2 ton. found an 85 chevy for the suspension and rear end. i plan on a 4" drop in the rear and something to match in the front

what is the widest rim and what backspacing do i need?

Front? Rear? Both?

This is very subjective too.... What is 'right' for one guy may not be for another. I suggest you get your drop done & take measurements using the wheels available to determine what will/won't work.

also, when you start maximizing sizes, tire selection will also matter.

tubbed rear? front wheel wells? leaf spring rear?

Check out the "Percy's Wheelrite" tool. You can buy them at Summit. The best $69 I have spent in a while. It will get you really, really close to perfect wheel spacing / tire size, and the true fit that you want your truck to have. It will do 15-20" wheels .. so completely your call.

Another thing to consider is the overall width of the 85 rear end vs. the original 67-mid 69 (55.5") and 70+ (57") plate to plate.

Ex. If someone told you a 20x10 with 5" BS would work on a typical short fleet, your rear axle might be longer / shorter overall and throw it off by 1" or more. I'm not sure how long the 85 model rear end is though.

Seriously .. buy the wheelrite. You'll be glad you did.
