I've seen it before and it sure is done nice. Right now it's a narrow band of buyers who like it $30k+ enough.

The problem as I see it, is that it's built for work, but it's way too nice to give it a job.

I'm sure it was also built like that to be different and one of a kind. You'll definitely pick this truck out of a crowd of swb's and regular lwb's. I like the truck, just can't afford the scratch.

Re: 1972 Chevy Dually 4x4

That's been up on ebay several times. Owner actually answered several questions I had about his build, so seems to be a pretty legit guy. Agree that it's a bit pricey, but built right.

Re: 1972 Chevy Dually 4x4

I'd put the correct mirrors on there and maybe fashion some woodgrain trim for the rear fenders. Other than that looks amazing.

Re: 1972 Chevy Dually 4x4

It needs a cummins! I guarantee if I ever get my Longhorn done, and if it was to this level................ If I decided to sell it I'd start at $30k too. I already have over $10k in it and I have done all work myself. So if you had to pay anybody to anything you know another $10k in a project is not out of line for labor. Then body and paint is easy another $10k if you have a shop do it. Nothing is cheap and if it is cheap generally it'll look it too. Just my .02.

Re: 1972 Chevy Dually 4x4

I like how the trim looks as it is. I think taking it out and around on those fenders would be too busy. I think the way it is looks more like hoe GM would have done it. Pretty much a certainty since they never put side moldings on Stepsides.
Man that thing's nice!!

Re: 1972 Chevy Dually 4x4

All things being equal, what would it cost to build a truck like this, but not as nice. For work only, but still clean. I'm thinking of finding a salvage with a Dmax and using all of the drivetrain to include the axles and put it in a 1 ton 67-72. that way I have all the newer truck drivabilty, and it still would be cooler than a newer truck. Any thoughts on what it would cost?

Well, for starters you'd have to purchase a wrecked DMAX truck, so I'm guessig that won't come too much less than $4k for a roller at least. Then if you want a true 1 ton 67-72 4x4 you have to build it because GM never made one. So a D60 is in order. I'm sure you'll dump $10-$15 in one before you know it.

Re: 1972 Chevy Dually 4x4

If I could I'd buy that thing and either put my ladder racks or steel work cap on it and work it,before buying a new truck. Trucks I work out of I keep nice. Why no love for a small block? That thing would run along just fine the way it is.
Blutrukker,I'd say to build what you want would cost you about what this truck is going for...awful darned close. What you save on "not as nice" you'll spend on the Duramax/trans conversion (more I figure).
