Fuel filler

I know this question has been asked many times before, but I couldn't find just the thing I was looking for with the search button. I want to put a blazer tank in a 3/4 ton, 4X4 longbed fleetside. I already have the tank. I would like to have the filler out of the side with a door on it. What is the easiest way to do this ? My welding skills are ok but nothing spectacular. In particular, has anyone used the No-Limit filler set up ?

Bernie,

I have the same question I have 37 gal tank that I have modified my bed to accomodate and have not found any fuel tank doors via a Google search, although I see a ton of them on the road. One of my friends sugguested putting the filler hose inside the wheel well instead of cutting the sheet metal.

Question: Do you have a filler neck for your tank? I am still searching for a filler neck.

I just have a Blazer/Suburban tank. I haven't installed it yet, the bed is off so I would put it back on to find where to cut. The inlet from the tank is horizontal so it would seem natural to put the filler in the side. If I put the filler in the bed it would invole a right angle in the pipe so may be hard to fill. I saw the doors in "No Limit Engineering." Maybe good to give them a call.

Check with a company named Hagen (not sure on the spelling). They advertise in Street Rodder. They sell gas doors, taillights, and other parts. I have seen the parts at shows, they look like they work well. We used the top off of a honda sportbike tank. This allows you to use the aluminum cap. I have pics of the tank top on the website, click on pics. http://photos.yahoo.com/cruzn72@pacbell.net

Bernie,

Since the Blazer was basically just a pickup in the sheetmetal area, wouldn't it be possible to set your pickup up in exactly the same way that the 69-71 blazer did? That is:

1) Blazer fuel filler through the bed side.
2) Flexible fuel hose from the filler to the tank.

I used a S10 pickup filler door section that I cut out and put in the side where the side marker is on the bed. Redid the lights to attach to the door. I saw it in an edition of Classic trucks, earlier this year, works fairly good, from what I can see.

Fast67,

Is Classic Trucks article an online one? Also what did you do for the fill neck? I have a clearance issue because I have a Camper that needs to slide in so I have to only use 2-3" inside the bed to route the hose to below the bed.

the article was in a magazine.

Mine is a fleet side, and all I did for the filler tube housing was use 3' square tubing and welded it to the inside, next to the rack hole in the top, and it does not stick out past anything else. I then used a heavy duty flex tube inside that.

For new fuel doors, try Hagan's. Or, find one you like the junkyard and start a-hackin'.
