need tire help

i was looking at some bf goodrich 295/50/15 for my '67 C-10. are these to short? if so what size would be bout right and be just as wide or maybe a little narrower? also what backspacing would i need with 15x8's or 15x9 rims? i get confused on all the tire measurements so some help would be greatly appreciated.

I have some BF goodrich 275/60/15 mounted on stock 15X8 P/U ralley rims on the rear of my 68, and have only .75" clearance on the inside. I wouldn't go any shorter. We put 285/70/15 on my sons 71, and it looks great.
