sm420 problem
hey guys i took my shifter handle out today to paint it..when i put it back into the trans i couldnt get it to go out of or into gear, its almost like its stuck between N and 2 gear, any ideas about whats wrong? thanks!

Take it back out and make sure you have it in the right slot and not behind a fork

well i took it out twice and it wouldnt fit any other way i put it in, but i will check it again

I had this happen to me a little bit ago with mine. I am not a trans expert, but here is what I did.
Sitting on the bench seat with the trans between your legs and the shifter off, there is a vertical lever barely sticking out of the trans housing on the right side. It moves towards you and away from you. Put the shifter and plate on with the forks in the races as you see them and then reach in and make sure that lever is in the space provided for it. Hard to explain, but turn the shifter plate over and look for where this should line up. You should see it.
