styling change. what do you think?

Ive been thinking about changing the looks of my truck lately. My friends tell me to lower it and put on some fat tires to give it a street rod look but thats not really my style. I like how my truck looks now but its not what it appears to be. When some people see or hear it they think its gotta be fast, but its not. I kinda want to change it back to what it used to be. The truck was orginally a farm truck since it was bought from the dealer and worked hard just about everyday. Then the second owner painted it blue/white and gave it more of the street truck look it has now. The truck is kinda half farm truck and half street truck style right now. What do you guys think I should do?

Beautiful, I love it. Utility vehicles that cleaned up on the weekends and made it to town then back to work during the week and that reflects the life I lived with my truck.

honestly, it looks great the way it is. i would leave the exterior alone, and focus on the drive train to make it as fast as it sounds.

Since its your truck and you love it like it is I think you should change it up to suit what your friends think. You get what I'm trying to say? =)

Since you asked... I'd dump that hood and the windshield sticker, and I'd find me some steelies. Still looks real nice just the way it is, though.

Re: styling change. what do you think?

I would chop the top 2 1/2- 3 ", do a 3/5 drop, dump the mirrors for a set of "peeps" to hang on the top of the doors, do a 1 pc door glass, & shave it! On the engine/ driveline....the bigger you go, the badder it is! But its your truck.....you need to do what makes you "feel good" crazyL

x3 on losing that hood and wheels. It's that hood that makes eveyone think the truck is fast... Although I do like cowl hoods on some trucks, it doesn't look at home there. Flat hood and some truck rally's and you're good to go. Maybe some white painted 'wagon wheels' for the true farm truck treatment?

Re: styling change. what do you think?

I'd drop the fat mud tires (what size tires are they? it might be an optical illusion due to the angle of the pic but they look like big All Terrain ballooners in the pic) --- The wheels might look completely different with some regular street rubber on them -- but this truck would look great with some rally wheels , either truck style or the Corvette Rally style-- if you stay with 15's, maybe some 255/60 tires or something along those lines - blackwalls out. Giving the truck a mild 2/4 drop would complement the 60's without ruining it as a truck

I agree on losing the windshield sticker - the grill already says Chevrolet. The hood does look out of place a little, but its not that bad -- if i were planning to re-paint it anyway, i'd get a flat hood -- same with the side mirrors - ditching them would require some body work and paint - possibly not worth it

Last -- put some quieter mufflers on it --- something that will make it sound healthy, but not distracting .

But thats what i would do if it were my truck --- a lot of people also say internet advice is worth what you pay for it too

Re: styling change. what do you think?

The mirrors seem gone in the top photo. Did you add them or are they now gone. I love the look of that truck. I agree about the sticker on the windshield. The hood is not for me but like others have said, it's your truck. I also agree with concentrating on the drivetrain. Make it reliable. I guess if it were me (and it's not) I'd tint the windows, add dual exhaust with chrome tips, change the wheels, add some bed rails and restore the interior if it needed it.

Oddly enough, that's what I plan to do with mine. :-)

Re: styling change. what do you think?

The bottom line is, this is your truck, If you like it the way it is now, leave it, if you don't change it to suit you.
Go tell your friend to take off their doors, hoods, wheels and tires from their rides , oh and also the engine but leave the tranny in, and see if they would do it.
You will never be able to please everyone so don't try, enjoy your truck and please yourself first.
Nice truck.

Re: styling change. what do you think?

The hood is definetly coming off when ever it gets repainted in the future. the balloon tires on it now are 31x10.5 and dont have much life left so new tires are gonna be needed pretty soon. As for the mirrors, I had them off in the top pick to fresh them up a bit so they are still on the truck. I really would like to get a set of smaller mirrors but then I would have some holes in the door that wouldnt be covered up. The sticker on the windshield is coming off but its gonna be a pain in the but because its all dry rotted. I have got my interior all redone, new dual exhaust (flowmaster 40's) and its has a new healthy motor but its the th350 and the rear end holding this truck back right now from being quick. If I can get this truck to beat a 90's gt mustang or lt1 camaro Ill be very happy. These camaro's on mustangs are like flies around here and its kinda annoying. I think if an old 69' farm truck could keep up with one these cars it would be pretty cool. Thanks for all the suggestions, keep em comin!

Re: styling change. what do you think?

The wheels, and the hood/windsheild sticker are sending mixed messages. Some 70' styling cues mixed with now.I like steelies or rallies, loose the sticker, then save for a paint job.Someone will trade you hoods when you get to paint.Buy mirror for when you paint also.I like a 2 1/2-4 drop but it's your truck.
I wouldn't worry so much about fast. But if you want a quick farm truck, search. There's a red and white one with topper that's been posted. It's a real farm truck but wicked fast.Your 350 tranbs would be fine with a 3:73 foir around town and would probably give you the quick but really limit hi-way mile per hour/gal.Try a 700R-4 with 3:73's and some mild bolt on's.You'll have to make quite a bit of power to make a 67-72 quick enough to beat a 5.0 in a 2800# Mustang.

Re: styling change. what do you think?

I like the street rod idea but your truck remindes me of the one I had in the day it was a 70 long bed that was blue and I had those same wheels. the only differance is my rear rims were 12 in wide and I ran 33 12.5 mudders on the back and regular tires on the front. its what every one did there were about 5 in highschool most with white spoke wheels except mine two were painted like yours except one was black and white and one gold and white. maby you should try it. it will be more agressive but it will still have the farm truck flavor you like . I guess thats why we got called you know what (crap)
kickers in highschool.

Re: styling change. what do you think?

I like it, I would get rid of the sticker, I think it you could keep the hood if you got some big tires and made it look 4x4. All of that said, I would drive your truck all day everyday with my head held high.

Re: styling change. what do you think?

I dont think I want to drop it because of useful reasons, I drive my truck daily and its my only truck. When I go out to my property, the rocky road gets pretty rough in some spots. As for the power in my truck I think it might have enough. Its got a new 355sbc that once tuned right it should put out about 360-370hp to the flywheel according to what the builder of the motor said. 3:73's and a posi are on my want list. I dont drive alot of highway, mostly back roads so the 3:73 shouldnt be too bad of mpg for that. As for the transmission I really want to convert it to a manual but Im afraid that I am not skilled enough and wont be able to accomplish that. So I may be sticking with a automatic for now. I am having a harder time finding 6 lug rally wheels than I expected. All I can find is 5 lug on craigslist. I did find a few good hoods for decent prices, so I may be picking one of those up.
