72 K10 Frame Off
Hey guys,
After years off beating my truck up in the rocks, snow, sand, dirt and mud, I've decided to retire her and begin the frame off process. I'm currently working on my 72 SS LSX Nova frame off and my brothers' 72 Chevelle SS clone frame off as well. This will slow me down a little but I'm shooting to have all three done and road ready by Spring. The tear down started last Monday, here are some pic's of the process so far. Side marker gone Found a 1/4" of bondo on the doors and other panels throughout the truck Bought a parts truck to make the process go faster I will be using the doors, hood, cab and a few misc parts Fame, suspension and misc brackets will be sent to powder coat next week. |

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Hey man, looking great. Here's my 72 K10 rebuild thread. Mine's stuck at the body shop for awhile, LOTS of rust which is all gone, but now it's getting all the parts to line back up aka corner panels,doors,rockers...Good luck with yours and i'll keep an eye on your thread too http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=478703

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
One light gone
Second one in the process Passenger lower section smoothed out It would be nice if they made a short bed version so added cutting and welding could be eliminated Driver side ready for blocking Daylight is gone earlier and earlier so I'm limited on what I can do when I get home from work now |

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Didn't get much done this weekend, last night's wedding kicked my **s. Started to remove more parts from my truck getting her ready to remove the cab so I can send the frame etc to blast and powder coat.
Amazing how several years of off-roading ruins what was once nice and shinny I spent a little bit of time cleaning my other frame off this morning, it's been collecting some dust inside the 10x20 canopy that's been concealing it for about a month now. Guess this is what happens when you take on too many projects simultaneously This is my brother's Chevelle that I've been working on also, |

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
This is the only cancer I found on the cab
The bolts put up a fight No more antenna Found the right front frame damaged/bent, looks like the the truck was hit or hit something before my dad bought her 25 years ago, also found some lose rivets. Working on the firewall, sucks, I have a bad cold and it's flippin' cold after sundown, not to mention it gets dark by 5:30 |

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Not much progress lately
the radio cut out was about 3/8" too big all the way around, tried to get a double din deck in but I would have had to delete the ash tray and that wasn't an option. so, single din it is. Fuel filler neck is gone Doors where ready for wet sanding, then I noticed the primer bubbling up, the metal looked solid but somehow it looked like bondo bliste4rs even though there was no filler. Had to cut all 4 corners and tig in new sheet metal Another set back but got it done in less that 3 hours Inside of the doors where already painted, oh well, need to re-shoot them again New metal tigged and all smoothed out, ready for wet sanding now Tailgate is ready to wet sand Firewall is ready to wet sand and shoot |

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Thanks, I should have the bed floor cut and welded up today, I'm shooting to have the spray on bed liner sprayed on today as well, only problem is that some of my neighbors get on the phone and call the cops on me due to the noise. No fun. I've been going at it since July 4th when I started on my Nova's frame off, they are a bit tired of me now FKM

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
She's ready for paint on Friday, if the paint booth is available.
My frame is still not quite ready for powder coat, I still need to finish squaring it up a bit more. Looks like I will send it out next week and just switch frames before cut and buff. I hope Friday is a go, it's supposed to rain this weekend, that will put a hold on paint. |

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Painted the truck yesterday, got home too late to post pics. Hope you like them, she's still on the long bed frame, waiting to fix her original frame.
First thing in the morning masking process in the booth, amazing how long this takes first coat on the bed My reflection on the front bumper Leaving the paint booth Everyone at the paint shop kept asking why she looked so awkward, I had to keep telling them that it's a short bed truck body on a long bed frame due to a bent frame. |
