How do these mirrors look?

I bought these mirrors off the board here and mocked them up over the weekend. I wanted a junior looking west coast style mirror. These mirrors look like a universal style and the glass is in bad shape (can be replaced and was disclosed at the sale). Trying to find out if these look too big or weird. I want a mirror bigger than a sport mirror but maybe something smaller than these. I do plan on having this be a functional tow vehicle at some point. Thanks!

I have never been crazy about the looks, BUT if you want function and being able to see well, then they do the trick!

They look great if you plan to install a slide in camper. Very large.

Re: How do these mirrors look?

I like the low profile tripod mount mirrors better myself for towing. The ones you are showing will give you some blind spots.

The first picture is of the tripods and the second is similar mirrors to which you have.

Re: How do these mirrors look?

They look really weird. I think the camper style mirrors would look alot better as posted above

also, they dont fold in! Maybe not seem like a big deal now, but it looks like they would DESTROY that door if you hit something.

Re: How do these mirrors look?

Here is a picture of some heavy duty towing mirrors on my '92. They are OEM and work real well towing trailers, even our 5th wheel travel trailer.

Re: How do these mirrors look?

I had some tri-pod camper mirrors on my 72 K-20 and found the vibration from the wind going down the highway would distort the view. Maybe because they were after market, I bought them at LMC?

I like them.
If you plan to tow, you are gonna need a functional mirror.
"sport mirrors" will look ridiculous on a rig pulling something, let alone you looking ridiculous trying to maneuver a trailer with "cool" looking mirrors...

Re: How do these mirrors look?

I like real mirrors on a truck. There are sleek trucks that look best with car mirrors, which is what I always called what everyone calls sport mirrors, but those mirrors are not very useful on a 4wd that sits higher or any truck when hauling anything. But,I think you need to look further for a better mirror. Those sit as wide as a senior west coast, yet only offer the mirror area of a junior. The RV Juniors from 67/68 are a stylish (as far as real trucks go) way to go without being real big,yet offer adequate rear vision. They are the type '68 C-20 showed in post #14

Re: How do these mirrors look?

The RV JRr.s also "break away", that is to say they swing in very easy in a tight spot and then when pushed back out, return to their exact preset position. The are good looking and (IMO) very well thought out.

. . . .

Most people don't like my camper mirrors - but since I hope to be pulling a boat that is eight feet wide ( one day ) I'm going to need them.

Re: How do these mirrors look?

Wow...A lot of feedback on mirrors. I was looking for more of the RV Jr. look. Unfortunately when i bought the mirrors the PO did not have a pic of them installed. Guess i learned a lesson there. I think they are too big and have had my opinion reinforced on the board. I am not a big fan of the tripod mirrors for some reason. Thanks!!

I like these. I have a set in plain white that need restoring. I like that you can tuck em in and then put em out when you have a wide load.

I have a set of the stock round mirrors for my panel that I will put the convex mirrors over the stock mirror. I found a set of those old style mirrors you bolt to your front wheel wells and hood opening when you pull wide loads. I think they will do the trick

Re: How do these mirrors look?

I have had many trucks with the Camper mirrors and have decided I'd rather not run them any more. The problem is the rigid mount of the base (arms). You brush those on anything and you have big dents in you doors. It doesn't take much to wreck a nice door...believe me. I have them on my '72 GMC right now and don't really need them,so I'm switching to below eyelines when I do the body work. They have the same mirror head and that is the farthest thing sticking out (which will give if you tap anything). If you don't need those things, you really don't want them. They were great with my slide-in camper,I must say,and that's the only time I have ever swung them out on any of my trucks.
Those RV Juniors are a great looking traditional truck mirror and I wish they were correct for 69-72s. On a truck I don't care about that on,that's what I'd use. Here's a good picture with them on a '67:
