Want a better ride
Hi everyone. I have a 1972 C20 with rear leaf springs. Can i remove some leafs or go with half ton springs on the same mounts for a better ride? I have a big block in it so the front is fine. The truck does not need to haul heavy loads. It is restored and is for fun.

Re: Want a better ride
Had 1/2 ton leaves in mine and it was pretty stiff.
Guessing you don't wanna change your altitude. Lose your overloads if you have them first and I would also take a look at your shocks, if you have those ones with the coil spring on them, or some other HD truck shocks just replacing those will make a big difference. After this is done removing a *couple* leaves will soften it up as well. Just remember that you will get more axle wrap if you lose to many and have a heavy right foot.

Re: Want a better ride
Welcome to the board.
Removing some of the rear leaf springs will soften the ride. Removing too many will lower the truck and also cause "spring wrap" issues. What are your plans for the truck? Also,... please post some picture. We all love pictures! (EDIT: I type too slow,... again^^^)

Re: Want a better ride
Thanks for the reply. You cant have a big block and not stand on now and then. The truck goes out on nice days. I dont work it any more. I would not have a problem with a inch or two drop front and back. Thinking remove overloads and two leaves. Would half ton big block one inch dropcoil springs work on the front ? The spring rates look the same. Will post photos. Thanks Terry
