Will a V8 bellhousing work on a I6 230? I have a chance to pick up a T5 with a V8 bellhousing.

Hey Larry, I am not sure about the trans mount, but I just recently swapped my I6 250 for a V8 350. I used the original bellhousing that joined the I6 to the SM420 tranny, and it fit perfectly up to the 350 after I got the right starter on there.

if your bell housing has the dog ears that mount it to the frame (I assume the I6 bell is just like the v8 in this respect for the 60-66's, but not 100% positive - I'm really only familiar with the v8 setup, but the idea is the same), you should not put a rear crossmember at the trans isolator location. Just bolt it up and go.

Bought a T5 out of a 92 Camaro. tag # 1352-213 10443. Any idea on what this stands for? Also it has electronic speedo, any work arounds on this?

Oops, sorry, here's a solution to the other question, but taint cheap...
http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cata...ct_speedo.html My T5 was an electronic speedo before I bought it - but someone also changed over to mech speedo before I bought it, luckily. I have yet to figure out how they did it... But would probably require disassembly to get the correct gear on the output shaft at a minimum, then stuffing the speedo gear housing in from the side. Sorry - not much help on this one. |

Thanks everyone for the replies. Now for another question. Since the T5 came out of a 92 Camaro I am assuming I get the clutch, pressure plate & flywheel for the 92 Camaro.

I drilled the rivets out of the cross member that holds all of the emergency brake levers so I could get the T-5 up in there, then bolted it back up using some grade 8 bolts. I am in the process of trying to do the same thing to my 66. Got everything figured out, the board is great.
The question I have, with I guess, the low hump floor, with the camaro T-5 trans and the S-10 shifter, do I need to do more than cut a hole for the shifter? I have a 250 with 3 on the tree with a beautiful uncut floor. So the trans will fit with the stock floor? Thanks, Steve |

My T5 fit just fine (barely) under the low hump. Closest rub was in the shifter area. Mine's a 93 S10 WC T5, but as long as you are mounting the camaro trans "straight up" and not canted like it was in the camaro - should fit exactly the same. Here's some pics of the tightest spot - but it did fit with no problem.
Edit: I did choose to mount the shifter mechanism from the inside of the truck, which allowed me the freedom to slide the trans in without interference. That might be one tip worth remembering. I kinda just did it that way by luck. Was a bit of a challenge getting the shifter bolted down afterward, but didn't want to enlarge the hole I had drilled - and it all worked out, whew... |

Good deal Larry. I'd use that one. The T-5 should bolt directly to your original standard bell housing.
