1963 chevy pickup starting problem
i have a 63 chevy truck and it has a problem with the starter when you turn it over it just go's clunk the motors not frozen and the battery fully charged and it has a new starter.
?please help? |

Sounds like the starter brushes are bad. The selinoid engauges but the starter doesnt turn.

Try tapping the starter with something while some one else is turning the ignition switch. If it cranks the engine than its the starter. If in doubt take the starter off and have it bench tested where you bought it.

a bad battery cable could be the issue or a corroded connection, both would present too much resistance between batt and starter.

Check the battery cables, make sure there isn't corrosion and that the the negative cable is well grounded. If that's all okay then pull that starter. Just because it's a new one doesn't mean it's not a bad one. Get it tested and then you will know one way or the other. I have gotten bad starters and alternators from parts stores, it does happen from time to time.
