Msd 6al
I put a 406sbc in my 72 stepside. I wired it according to the msd wiring diagram. I have power from the battery going in. I use a circuit tester to check. The orange wire going from the box to + coil does not have power. I tried another coil, just in case a bad coil would cause a bad ground. What would cause power in but not out?

is the box grounded good? also what distributor? the box wont send anything to the coil unless the distributor triggers it

Re: Msd 6al
Big black wire from box goes directly to the neg terminal on battery. Batt neg goes to block. There are black and orange which go to coil and green and purple that go to distributor. The motor and electronics came from a race car. I left the distributor in the motor during the swap. I did unplug and remove the rev limiters.

Re: Msd 6al
Make sure the small red wire has power in the crank and run position.

Re: Msd 6al
The small red wire goes to the unfused ignition on the fuse panel. I checked the ignition switch in both positions and it works correctly. However, I couldn't find any fuse or post that kept the circuit tester lit when I would crank.Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Msd 6al
Acording to MSD's site you need to use the hot wire that went to your original coil. It's been a while but I remember that there was only one circuit that stayed hot in crank and run.Guess why I remember that.....

No that wire comes from the ign. switich . It needs to be hooked to the small red wire from your msd box.

Re: Msd 6al
Put small red directly off back of ignition switch. Today had all 3 starters tested. They are all good. Put it back together. Again, not cranking. I hate this crap.

Re: Msd 6al
Hold up...Is it not cranking"engine does not spin when you turn the key" or not starting"spins but does not start"?

Re: Msd 6al
Ok it runs awesome now. After running everything down over and over it ended up being a bad ground. I never tightened the bolt in the head from the battery negative wire. Always the simple **** that baffles me. Thanks for the help.
