Re: big rim pic requests
285/50R20 is 31.3" tall
Section width is 11.1" when mounted on a 9" wheel. 275/45R20 is 29.7" tall Section width is 10.7 when mounted on a 9" wheel. Every .5" change in rim width will change section width approx .2" Specs shown can vary slightly from one tire mfg to another. |

Re: big rim pic requests
When you swap over to those super sized rims and tires wont there be an issue with braking if you haven't upgraded to larger disc brakes?

Re: big rim pic requests
Here is my 66 gmc with 17 x 9 inch cragars, not big by todays standards but I like them cause you can still show some sidewall and I feel these trucks look better with some sidewall instead of band aids for tires .......JMO Kieth
rear tires 265 x 70 x 17 Michelins (very square trear surface, barely clears the fenderwell lip (width of your hand flat) inside the fenderwell the wood has about the same amt of clearance....the real problem is the front lip of the fendersell, we had to reposition the bed support rods so they moved the fenders out at the bottom so they clear (the overall diameter is 30") If you want to use larger wheels and tires I would suggest moving the axle back 1.5" to allow more clearance in this area. Backspacing I do not know but the space from the front hub to the outside of the wheel is 5.5" so back spacing is 3.5"..... front rim is 9" I have a 91 burb front end with McGaughy 2.5" drop spindles the backspacing on the rims is 4.5" with 255/65/17 michelins, with the drop spindles this tire and wheel combo sits about level with fenderwell lip. have not had trouble with it rubbing but I do take sharp driveway entrances slowly. backspacing is 4.5" distance from hub to oustide of wheel is 4.5" Here is a picture---by the way the truck rides and drives great...... Here is a link to the clearance issues which I mentioned earlier, we have since moved the body out farther on both sides and I have ordered a longer panhard rod that is adjustable so the rear end and body will be more in the center of their travel and elimanate the side to side fenderwell lip problem. I am still fighting moving the trailing arm crossmember back the 1.5" I spoke of earlier. Wish I had done it while building the chasis it would have been easy simple and clean at that time....... http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...813993_qRbvdJX Last edited by kieth; 11-11-2011 at 11:04 AM. |

Re: big rim pic requests
What notch is that, and what is the OD if your wheels? sorry for so many Q's, lol. I want the smallest notch possible to still lay frame on a decent tire, probably 20" rims. looks like you're notch has 2-3 inches of space in there which leaves hope for me that I won't have to raise the bed floor as much as I feared. I'd like to be somewhat usable laid out for home depot runs.
