Bad drums?

I converted 69 c10 to 5 lugs about 2 years ago. Factory 5 lugs front rotors were cut and new rear drums. Now when coming to a stop under light braking the whole truck shakes. I know that rear drums are out of round but they barelly have any miles on them. Did anyone else have this happend before?

Re: Bad drums?

If you apply the parking brake slowly while driving 40 mph and the vibration is there it is the drums. Pull the drums and have them turned. If the truck sits for periods of time rust can develop and cause this problem with the rotors or drums.

It's cheap to have the drums turned if they're out of round. Mine were $7 each.
Could be you may have to replace them if they can't be turned anymore.

When the truck shakes, does the steering wheel shake and shimmy? If so, it may also be that you have front end components like tie rod ends and/or ball joints that are worn as well as defective or warped rotors.

Re: Bad drums?

No vibration at the pedal and steering feels tight. Hard to notice during normal driving. When someone gets on my rear bumper that's when I apply the brake very easy and feel vibration. Front was redone. I don't remember brand name, drums came in a white boxes. I'll try and cut them this week.
