72 power steering leak/identify this hole!

so I have been meaning to get to the leaking power steering pump. I thought it was leaking from the fitting on the bottom that the hard line enters the rear of the pump, but after filling the pump and sec later a super leak appears. I crawled under and to my surprise I found this hole in the back of the pump above the fitting but below the fill next. so why is there a hole here and what if anything goes there? Is it a plug or something.... soory for the crappy photo but it was hard to get my cell phone up there to take a good picture...

Re: 72 power steering leak/identify this hole!

From your photo its kinda hard to tell.

I just took my PS pump apart. In the back of the tin housing there were 3 holes and a tube for the low pressure return line. One hole accepted the fitting for the high pressure line. The other two holes accepted the 'studs' for mounting the pump. All the holes had O rings sandwiched between the pump body and the tin case/housing/reservoir.

Looks like maybe this hole needs one of those mounting studs (like a piece of threaded rod with a nut in the middle).

Looks like it could be missing a plug maybe, I can't tell is that hole threaded?

I dont think it is a threaded hole..... did some of the older model power steering pumps come with a plug or hole

Re: 72 power steering leak/identify this hole!

I have an aftermarket pulley system, so I maybe the previous owner pluged it and the plug worked it self loose. I think I will just plug it...
