I used to have one of these...........
I talked to another guy today while I was at the local car wash. He stopped me while I was vacuming my truck to tell me about his 69' that he sold a few years back. I always get a kick out of how many people stop me to talk about their old truck. It's surprising sometimes the way people will stop and talk to a total stranger about a truck. I know this happens to everyone else but, I just wanted to let everyone know.

Man, no one has ever stopped to talk to me about my truck. The closest I got was an early 70's Dodge Powerwagon full of hillbillies sittin at a gas station, I got semi-toothy grins and thumbs up from all of them. But no one has actually said anything to me about it.

I usually get a thumbs up every time I take old blue out, and I at least get an offer to buy her every other time. I bet if I ever did decide to sell her these folks would be nowhere to be found.

I had a guy just last week tell me " I used to have a 72" And he went on about a story of how he used to dog the sh#t out of it and it never would die. He said he sold the truck to a neighbor, that tore it completley down and restored it, now he get to see it every day in new condition and is kicking him self in the a#$ for selling it. Guy went on and on, I was filling my truck up at the time, he talked about the truck the whole time I was putting gas in it.
I have people give me the thumbs up all the time. Sam

That same old story about I wish I never sold it kills me, as if the guy that sold it would of ever fixed it up, Its great to want something back after someone else put all the time and energy into fixing it up, I had a guy say that to me, he said I wish I would of kept that truck, why it would still be a peice of s#it like when you owned it

lol casey, I think you're right. Too bad most people don't see the point in throwing all of that money into a 67-72 money pit oh I mean truck.

Of course being that I work at a gas station, I hear more than my fair share of stories. Not just about these trucks but all kinds of vehicles. Also, it seems like tons of people wave when I am driving my truck and I have no clue who they are.

I was out at the local ice cream shop last year getting dinner and was bsing with the owner of the place. And he was telling me all about a truck his uncle owned just like mine except it was green witch raised an eyebrow, as my truck was originally green. Then he tells me he added power steering to it and the light bulb went on as the truck did not come with power steering and one of the brackets was home made. Opened the hood and he just about **** and I got the rest of the first 23 year history on it.

The only time I've had something like that was one day I drove my truck to work and a guy I work with accused me of stealing his truck.......and he was serious. I thought I had the only short step 4x4 in the county, till I went to his place and saw his......the only difference in the 2 was the grey primer is in different places, practically identical. I was sorry to see him go, but I'm kinda glad he moved away.....now I have the only truck in the county that looks like mine.......at least I think.

I've had that happen to me alot actually ,funny nobody ever walks up to the new truck and goes over it with a fine toothed comb ,but I've had people circle the 69 a couple of times.
The reaction is quite a bit stronger when I take the Studebaker out for a spin ,and the stories I hear of "when I was young" are priceless ,and makes it all worth it |

I get alot of "Nice truck" from the ricers around here, and fellow motorheads but I get more dirty looks than anything. I can't figure it out its not like there isn't alot of old vehicles around here. The day I got mine liscensed last july a old man just glared at me. Probably he just got out of his Park Avenue and turned on the alarm and my truck set it off. LOL

I get occassional comments and thumbs up's with mine but the funniest happened the other day. I pulled into Lowes and a worker in the garden section came over and asked if he could look at my truck. I said sure. Then he asked me if it was an '83. WHAT!?! I haven't a clue why he thought that my '69 could possibly be a crappy 80's truck. If it was an 83, it would probably be in the scrap yard with all the other 80's vehicles.
I get alot of questions about the '65 Impala tail lights too.

I've even had the younger kids stop and talk when I'm out working on mine.
Surprise when they seem to know alot about these trucks.

Yes, I get it a lot with my 67 long step. but it is overwhelming when I am driving the 63 impala wagon. Seems like everbody either owned one, or took their family vacations in one.
Usually they ask if it is still all original. I guess the bright red primer, rallies and lowered stance aren't a tip off, lol. Anyway, I love it when people appreciate what I'm driving. A couple of thumbs up make up for a couple of busted knuckles every time. OCB |
