Few Little treasures
A guy I know called me up and told me he had a 1972 Suburban at his place and it was going to scrap after he pulled the motor. He asked if I wanted any parts. A tree had fallen on it, so the top and hood were toast and Michigan salt and taken care of the bottom third, however there were a few little treasures. Overall the truck was lightly used.
I scored a factory radio, climate control levers in excellent condition, a black seat belt (now my center passenger will match my 3 point belts), a grill and bezel, and a few other odds and ends that I needed. The most interesting things were in the glove box. Two owners manuals that appear to never have been opened. Due to the windshield being crushed by the tree there is a little water staining, but not bad. There was also a sealed envelope with the entire 1972 Chevrolet Line up on the back. I am itching to open it as it seems like a time capsule, but I want to try to do it without cutting or ripping it. So I guess I have to steam it or figure out how to soften the adhesive. Here is a scan I made of the envelope. I thought members of this forum might enjoy this. Update: I tried to post the photo..... I have it at an online site.... It didn't stick to the post, so you can find it here. https://picasaweb.google.com/kabrood...62393683690594 |

Re: Few Little treasures
I steamed the envelope and was able to open it without ripping it. The contents were dated Oct & Nov. 1971 and were as follows:
-Original bill of sale $3500 (this was the unpaid balance after trade in and deposit which were not reflected on bill of sale) -Original title application (which showed total purchase price of $4400) -Deposit slip -Proof of insurance It was nostalgic opening an envelope that has been sealed since Nov. 1971. BTW.... Thanks Stocker for posting the picture of the envelope for me. |
