Help with wheels

Need help with wheel size.
Hey everyone I just bought me an 85 GMC short bed. I am wanting to drop it just with 2 inch spindles in the front and the 4 inch hangers in the rear.
What I am wanting to know is what is a good size wheel to put all the way around. I for sure want to put a 295/50/15 on a 10 inch wheel on the rear but I dont know what size to put in the front. I have seen a lot of trucks with 10s in the front but I dont want the tire to stick out past the fender well. Will an 8 inch rim look good and does anyone have any pictures.

Also I have a billet grill that I want to take off and replace with a factory chevy grill. Since mine is a GMC will the chevy grill fit.

Re: Help with wheels

I tried 275/60/15's on the front of an 85 GMC I used to have. I found the the wider tire caught the ruts on the highway and made the truck wander back and forth. I preferred running a 245/60/15 up front.

I second this option, I've never care'd for a wide tire on the front although the truck BBBC10 post'd look's good with em.

Re: Help with wheels

I and my son used to run 15" rims on our trucks (86 and an 84). We have stepped up to different rim sizes, but I still have the 15" stuff in my garage. We ran the 295/50/15s on an 8" X 15" rim without any issue and the front was 245/60/15 tires on 8" rims to keep the tire diameters about the same. If you go bigger on the front, the look is not quite right.

When running a 15" rim on a lowered truck, you have to watch the backspacing and the fact that the rim will rub on the lower A-frame tip. My rims were WELD brand and the back spacing was at 3.5" and I had plenty of room. By the way it is sometimes hard to find a good 295/50/1`5 tire. Many manufacturers are limiting the production of them.

Re: Help with wheels

I run 275/60/15's all the way around with 15x8 wheels and love the way it rides. My truck isn't lowered all that much though. (Forgive my dirty truck in this pic)

Thanks, I got the narrow 1 5/8in trim rings from LMC. They are stainless with an excellent 360 deg snap ring on the backside. Never been a fan of the wide trim rings, I like to see more rim.

J Knight, I just wanted to say you have my favorite lowered 80's Chevy I've ever seen. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Thanks fellas, the truck is an 82 with the factory 82 grill painted black with a 3/4in chrome side molding across the middle.

I love the 81-82 Grille and bumper setup. Especially with the chrome molding in the center. That looks great. That's probably my favorite Chevy grille I've ever seen.

Thanks again, it was way cheaper to do this than a burb clip or a billit grill.

Sorry Busfreak for sort of hijacking your thread.
