To scrap, or not to scrap?
In the field behind my house sits a 78ish 3/4 ton gmc. It belonged to my great grandfather. After he passed we drove it home on 6 cylinders and did enough work to get it to run for roughly a year. This was about 4 or 5 years ago. The motor stopped turning over and it seemed almost completely rusted out. My dad has given up on getting it running so he is going to scrap it. Is there anything on here worth hanging on to or selling?

Re: To scrap, or not to scrap?
The axles and tranny/transfer case would be about it. Looks pretty rough.

Re: To scrap, or not to scrap?
drag it up to the house and spend a day clean'n it up, then post it CraigsList. that truck should bring a little chunk of cash.
with a good used motor it'll make a fine hunt'n or work truck.

Looking on CL at trucks, a few listed looked worse. Maybe someone in your area could use it.

Re: To scrap, or not to scrap?
I have driven stuff with more rust and thought it was in ok shape. I think it's worth the time putting a motor in.

Re: To scrap, or not to scrap?
Dashpad, mirrors, bed, wheels, doors, dashboard, tailgaite (if any), tailgate brackets, roof lights, headlamps, axles, leave springs, seat...
Anything will give you a buck or two on Craigslists, little by little. It's about how much work you want to put into it. Or just get another block and get the thing to start turning over. A little bit or redne... elbow grease and you'll have a great work truck. |

Re: To scrap, or not to scrap?
I could use the interior pillar and all headliner plastic!! My Silverado was stripped of it when I got it and I'm trying to return mine to original condition.

Re: To scrap, or not to scrap?
+1 on the don't scrap!! These trucks are hard to come across, and there are many good parts to sell off it, or even just fix it up, clean it up and make it nice and keep for yourself or sell it on CL.
Good luck, and please don't scrap it! "Don't crush 'em, restore 'em"
