Re: Not mine, but a Kool Kamper!

I wonder if it wasn't an emergency type vehicle at a time prior to being a camper?

Re: Not mine, but a Kool Kamper!

something is tickling my brain to say that was an original Civil Defense truck back in the day and was originally set up to do checks for radiation. I was doing some research on this back a few years after 9-11 and came across an article that had a truck that looked real close to that.

Re: Not mine, but a Kool Kamper!

That is one of the coolest rigs I’ve ever seen. Definitely purpose built, but unusually well thought out, especially the dash board. There’s hardly a square inch left without gauges and switches, but everything looks practical and somewhat attractive. Also interesting to see the twin military style emergency brake handles. So many of these commercial applications never received this kind of attention to detail. The body appears to be in tip top condition. This would make a very interesting and highly unusual setup for someone with enthusiasm. By the way if you click on each picture it expands to become even bigger to view more details.

That really is an amazing rig. Quite nice too. Definitely not something you see every day.

Re: Not mine, but a Kool Kamper!

Here’s an interesting piece of trivia – the upper part of the shifter boot appears to be formed in the shape of an arrow head pointing forward. I’ve never seen a boot like this before. Could this be factory original? Also present is the rare power brake pedal pad:

Re: Not mine, but a Kool Kamper!

This owner must be a Pilot with all that gauge action going on. Factory clock and I'm sure a Tach as well. Any idea about those knobs next to the lighter that look like stove knobs? Wish there were some engine shots.

Under severe magnification and manipulating the contrast and color, the switch to the left of the radio knob (A) looks like it could be a left and right selector switch for different fuel tanks.

Having no bezel for identification, the other knob (B) could possibly be a selector switch, some time of rheostat, or perhaps connected to some type of a timer. Of course without actually knowing, this is just guesswork.

Look at all that un-sprung weight hanging off the back, not to mention the ridiculously high center of gravity! *Warning* no "aggressive" turns in this rig!
