Changing steering wheel ?
Hello new guy here with a 76 tnx/ Chevy lwb 2x4.
Does anyone know if you can remove the steering wheel without a puller? I don't remove them often so dont see a point on buying a puller . Thanks, Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Changing steering wheel ?
well, I looked into that at the local place near my house and they charge your card then you go through a process where you have it for a couple days then get charged if not returned in the couple days. I was just wondering if it was possible seeing how it is an old truck that there might be another way?

I think you will need the puller. It wont take long to get it off. You could have the puller back the same day.

Re: Changing steering wheel ?
I didn't need a puller to get mine off. I spun the nut off a few threads and then put the seat all the way back and pulled while gently twisting back and forth, took about a minute and heard a POP. Don't take the nut all the way off and try this or you'll likely end up in the hospital. I didn't damage the wheel any either. I am also not particularly strong.

Re: Changing steering wheel ?
You could borrow my puller but it would cost way more in gas than just buying one for $10

Re: Changing steering wheel ?
Really easy loosen the nut and then give the steering wheel one nice hit with the palm of your hand on each side once on the left once on the right and then on the left next good hit with your palm the steering wheel will pop off. you are hitting it in the area where you actually hold your wheel while you drive. I just did this a week ago my best friend told me the trick. It took me 15 seconds and off it was.

Re: Changing steering wheel ?
It takes about a minute with a puller. I'd recommend borrowing one or just buying one. (I use my puller quite a lot now lol I'm always screwing around with my truck so I think they're a good investment.
