How many actually get their truck going again?

I'm just curious, how many run out of funds, lose interest, or have the stick with it to get their project going again. It's easy to tear it apart but did you get it going again? A lot of trucks are never "finished", almost all our trucks are a continual work in progress.

for me, its money, i bought my neighbord 2.3l ranger for my daily so theres really no rush.. just got some new stuff the the heads and while im waiting, im cleaning the bay up....

been working on my truck since 2008 and just want to make sure i do everything properly and in order so i dont have to do it oer again. i try to take small steps rather than think about the finish project. it woll come in due time. with the money i aloted to the truck i would like to be close to completion in 5 years from purchase date and im not too far off from that i dont think. fall of 2013.

Got the cab and front end back on. Now I am working on the wiring. Then I plan to drive it while I finish it up.

The nice part of this 71 is I bought it before in 2004 worked a lot on it then traded it back to my buddy I got it from, put $14,000 into the powertrain last year, mostly motor (460 BBC w.525hp) and he put on an actual 400 miles and traded me back for my 2000 Trans Am I just traded my all new 79 Bronco for. This style truck 67-72 is my most favorite, had 5 2wd's and 2 4x4's which I have owned twice each. Now I am totally settled to have this one back that only needs paint and a bit of finish work. Lovin to drive it, the power with the 4spd is just so cool, I can light up all 4 swampers 35" in 3rd gear in 4whigh. Nothing but fun. It is my best Christmas gift ever.

It's done done....only regular maintenence from here on out.

Started it in May of 2009 and was done by September of 2009. The biggest enabler was I did all the paint prep work, and the body shop had it in and out of the spray booth in one week.

Money problems and being a full time student have put a damper on things. However, i hope to have it running and driving before i go back to school on the 17th - that gives me all spring to tinker.

Mine is a runnin' and driveable work in progress. Depends on which socks I put on that day to decide which way to go...

I tore the truck down from the firewall forward, and got it back together (including engine and tranny rebuilds) in about 3 years. Now the rear end is out of it for an R&R (regear and repaint)... I drove it for about 2 years before pullin' the rear end out of it again.

This is a good question. I fear that many never get finished. I have finished many, but my first truck, a 56 big window that I got when I was 15, still waits to be done right.

Where's the complete check box. I've done for frame offs. One C10, two mid year corvettes, one first gen Camaro. That along with many spruce ups for resale.

To me its all about priorities. Mines running now, but needs a lot of body work and a new power plant. I have some health problems, so Im trying to get it done to enjoy a little time with it while Im here. But I look at it as an heirloom cuz it was my dads truck, and I have no kids, so after me its my nephews truck. I don't want to leave the poor kid a project that he knows nothing about, so I put the rat race on hold for it. Thats what puts me in the garage, and it will be bad a** before he gets it! (Dont worry, I already told his mom that he gets it AFTER college)

still working on our 70 short step, its slowed down to a crawl at the moment with the holidays and the colder weather. i got the bed media blasted and ended up with a repop front panel and a tailgate. got the bed all finished in kirker hot rod black. after all the trouble i wish i could have talked dad into going with a base/clear but he wanted the satin look so thats what we got. got one front fender blasted and painted as well. my blaster had it up in his attic and it was a rust free gm part so that worked out good. got the dash finished with some aftermarket gauges i put into the original 3 hole dash where the factory gauges would go. turned out pretty good. found a rustfree rear trailing arm and blasted and painted it as well. got some poly bushings ive yet to install in them. rewired the interior harness,mounted up some monte carlo ss grey leather seats and got a new grant wheel to install. bought some new 6 lug mags off ebay for a great deal and had some bfg's mounted up. prolly not my first choice of wheels but couldnt go wrong for the money, so they will do the trick. did some trading and got a rpm intake and a holley carb to replace the stocker stuff and a sweet set of vintage aluminum valve covers. got a nice power steering setup to install and a power brake assembly as well. hope to get the cab down to the blaster after the new year and get the inner/outer rockers and a couple cab mounts replaced. got a nice set of rustfree doors that i need to start on as well as the hood and the other fender. also picked up a nice grill assembly that is better than the 2 that came with truck but im not sure if its a 69 or 70? either way i think it will fit. i guess thats about it for now! man i gotta long way to go on this lil truck. sorry for the book,dont mean to ramble, but NO i havent given up! I really don't go too far into painting frames and every part I put on. I like stuff that looks and gets used,not that there is anything wrong with those who do. My stuff gets driven everywhere,if I have to ask myself is it too nice to drive there I went too far fixing it up.

I think most folks on this site who have a project going, have the intention and drive to see them through to the end. With that being said, I also think alot of us (myself included) go into it thinking that the enthusiasm we started out with will continue indefinately. Reality is that while we may sometimes wish otherwise, life continues on and in many cases has a way of slowing down even the most determined of us. For me- it's the $$$. Nonetheless, I still find time and resources to do as much of the bodywork I can. If I can get that out of the way....then when the funds come in I can focus on the fun stuff (powertrain and suspension).
