heater pirating
I really want a smooth firewall on my jalopy and the original heater and the whole friggen system looks like a big fat steaming pile of ugly. Originally I figured it would be cool to just get rid of the radio and the heat and drive it in the summer only...
well now I want to keep my original AM radio in it and drive it year-round... the heater in it right now takes up a good bit of space above the floorboards and under the hood... it doesn't get in the way other than creating a massive eyesore on both ends but it got me thinking... I could maybe try to take the heat off another newer car in the junkyard... like a civic or swift or anything and put it in the cab... so I get a nice smooth firewall AND high-tech heating. My original idea was just to get one of those cheap 12V heaters and just put it in the winter... my dad said that was retarded and it'll never work... i'd be freezing my ass off bad. Hey, it's better than walking, pops! :b anybody try this or know anything at all about what I'm planning?

well you could mount a heater core and blower assembly under the seat that would solve the problem of freezin the old arse but then you'd have a problem with no defrosters. check with a vendor like vintage air and see what they offer in the way of compact heater and defrost systems

The aftermarket A/C companies each have a heater/defrost unit for around $200 that goes under the dash inside the truck. That's what I'm doing for heat.

Summit Racing has a heater made by Flex-A-Lite that is like 12,000 btu's and mounts just about anywhere(pretty small). I am thinking of getting one for the 67 since I shaved the heater. It was all mesed up and box was broken. It works off of the coolant like a reg heater but it is all self contained. Price is good I think at $150+or-. If I get one I am gonna make a shroud and duct it to the defrosters and just have them work cause thats all I ever use anyway in spring,summer and fall.

Find a junk 70's Freightliner cabover. They had a small heater box that mounted on the firewall and was self contained. (has blower built into it and ports for vent hoses) they run off of engine coolant and put out alot of air.
