new motor look, intake/carb combo

so got the new edelbrock intake and carb on, looks great from the old q-jet and stock manifold. love the new look and can't believe when the original owner built the motor just before I bought it that he didnt intall an aftermarket intake and carb combo...he did say he wanted a sem[ stock appearing look..... but wow it looks great and freaking runs even better..... smooth idle, smooth power and truck sounds so much better. I really think the q-jet just was not running good at all like I suspected from the very start, after looking at the q-jet when we removed it, it did not look rebuilt like indicated to me when I bought truck. so here is a good look at the before and after...

old original q-jet and intake

new intake and 600cfm electric chock

Re: new motor look, intake/carb combo

Looks great! Im thinking about doing some upgrades to my 350 until I get ready for a big block in the next year or two. What intake is that, and what does it cost? Can you tell us a little about the improvements in performance?

Re: new motor look, intake/carb combo

IT IS THE EDELBROCK ALUMINIUM EPS AND PEFORMER 600CFM CARB..Ooops sorry about caps.... but as for the performance... it weights so much less than the stock intake set up.... is actuallt runs very quiet, smooth, great throttle response and the truck cruises like a kitten purrs.... at least for me my mods in the motor really neede something to compliment it... and I think the ol q-jet that was on it was just not running right.... it is like night and day in power and performance... the intake cost $139 summit, but I scored it for $90 on CL, never used and the carb was my father inlaws, I was going to install the 750cfm but a lot of guys on this forum said 750 is too much for daily driving so I traded him.. I got the 750 in a trade for the ol q-jet and intake... so it all worked out...

Looks great.

You should look into getting the nice form fitting metal carb fuel inlet tube with filter that they make for the Edelbrock carb. Very nice piece and it eliminates a whole bunch of failure prone rubber hose from your engine.

I have used it on three different rigs and it works well.

Re: new motor look, intake/carb combo

Looks good! I think people are more concerned with the fuel line failing than the look. The current fuel is known to eat the rubber line. I've seen this first hand so I'd get it changed out as soon as possible...I got some line made for fuel injected vehicles which can stand up to the current fuel but I still try to use as little rubber line as possible

(insert beating a dead horse picture )

Not to be a nag, but I'd hate for your nice truck to go poof one day. the problem is the hose can look perfect but they are being eaten up by the fuel from the inside out. It's only a matter of time before they fail. Sometimes it's months, sometimes it's weeks....sometimes years...and depends on your local fuel....you being in cali....I'm thinking sooner than later because of the fuel you guys get

Re: new motor look, intake/carb combo

If you use auto trans cooler hose as I do on all my builds it is a way better quality hose and the fuel now a days won't touch it, cost more but works way better. I do like the Edelbrock metal fuel line and filter kit, but where you need hose the trans hose works great.

Re: new motor look, intake/carb combo

So, have you thought about replacing that fuel line. See what happens when you post some good pics...I still have rubber on mine as well just trying to save up the funds between projects. Nice looking engine compartment by the way. Here's my before: still got a lot of work to go. How many things can you find wrong with this picture?

Cheers,
