control arm, help

gday everyone ,on the bottom control arm one of the nuts on the shaft end looks like at one time has been welded to the control arm but the weld has broken ,wot does that nut do there are two one on each end of the shaft it has air bags has that done the damage thanks...mark from oz

Welcome to the site. The nuts on the control arm shaft thread into the lower control arm and if I remember correctly are torqued to a specific number to keep the shaft from
moving around.
If somebody welded them, they're coming loose for some reason. to correct this properly will takea little investigating to see what is worn to see if its the nut or the A Arm itself. I don't know anything about bagging the trucks if the geometry is correct it shouldn't make a problem.



i have seen them welded before but never knew the reason why. Good luck

thanks for that mate , i will have to look in to it ,wot a bummer two weeks ago i bought some brake rotors from eckers and put them in a mates shipping container to come to oz .....too late now if i need bits thanks heaps i will keep ya posted

The nuts are the lower control arm shaft "bushings"...They thread into the control arm as well as the control arm shaft. The threads in the control arm are very shallow and in my case,"stripped." In order to insure that the bushing stays tight and keeps the control arm shaft located, a tack or aprox. a 3/4" weld is used to fix the bushing to the control arm thus keeping the bushing from backing out.
If the crack in that weld indicates any movement between the bushing and the control arm, your going to need to replace the bushings and/or the control arm.

hey thanks michael that explianed it ,i dont no how long its been broken it looks like a ****ty weld ,i might weld a good one to give me time to chase up some parts thanks for your help
