I finally got some time to myself....

Ok, So I got a promotion at work, with a raise, and benifits. At the same time,I got my tax return & I went out and bought a small house (had some help).

Now for the last 4 weeks I've been at work 7 days a week, which is good. But it can be bad whan you work at an auto parts store. I've been looking at all those catalogues for so much time I started to randomly order small items. But they got bigger. Now I have 2 new inner front fenders, 2 complete rocker repair panels, a fibreglass rollpan, brand new door plastics with openings for power windows/locks (in black with new rubber). and Some painless wiring "Jamb tac " connectors.

This brings me to my question: Where is a good place to mount the connectors? I bought a pair of 4 wire and a pair of 4 wire with dome lamp buttons. Has anyone done this yet, or am I a guinny pig? The idea is to mount the ones with the buttons in the door frame somewhere, and the 4 wire only ones in the doors to match up with them. I'll be using the factory switches for the locks to power the solenoids, what amperage can they hold? Also where can I get connectors for the bask of the switches?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the long post....

Hey there fellow Canuck.

Sorry I don't have any answers for your questions, but actually have questions for you.

Where do you order all your parts from? Are they Canadian companies? I have some American sources (i.e. LMC Trucks) but I'd love to have some Canadian ones as well.

Thanks for your help.

BTW, congratulations on the promotion, raise, house, etc...

Re: I finally got some time to myself....

All I can say is ...Waay to go!!
Looks like you have done well for yourself with a house and all.
Good luck with it.

On the question below, If I understand you right, you want to power a solenoid with the factory door lock switch.
This switch is designed for about 2 amps on a momentary basis. As long as you don't let the current stay on them for over 3-4 seconds you should be okay.
As for getting the connectors, Unless Someone On Here Has Them! Hint Hint, you might try a junkyard.

On the Jambtac,
I don't think anybody here has tried that..at least it looks like that so far.

Are these the feedthrough connectors that replace the wires powering our door?
If they are then the spot where the wires go through now looks like the best spot.
If you don't have power anything in your door I can send you a pic of the area I am talking about.

well, I didn't get much time afterall. I had to work all weekend. But I did manage to get the centerlines on my truck back to the polished mirror finish. What a task,.. It was like 3 or 4 hrs , they were greyish with oxidization fromthe winter. I used Nevr-dull to cut down the film fast then mothers aluminum polish, then this new "hot Stuff" spray& wash from meguiars ( or mothers, I can't remember right now) overall, they look great. But I'd like them to look better. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

Thanks for the input about the connectors, and the kind words about my progress with stuff in general. I was going backwards for so long, Its nice to sorta get ahead for a change.

MIKE76251: Could you post a pic? I have no power options on the doors as of current, so I'd appreciate the help. The contacts are approx. 3&1/4" long by 1/2" wide. I just want to make sure that where they mount, it wont interfere with with the closing of the doors, as well as making sure that they contact each other properly when the door is closed.

Thanks!

I just went out and looked and it looks like the best place would not be where I said but where these pics show.
The spot just below the switch for the dome light and the spot opposite that on the door.
I don't know how high those switches are but you might have to "shim" it up to match the level of the dome light switch.
