Tailgate install & new paint
Ok guys... i am getting ready to install my tailgate on my freshly painted truck & i am looking for any insight as to the best way to install the gate without scratching the paint. any insight or helpful lessons learned would be greatly appreciated....

First, I would round up a couple friends to help. Then I would gather up some old towels or rags to lay on the edge of the bed. Then be very careful.

couple layers of blue painter's tape on all edges (gate and bed) so when you do eventually whack it on something it won't do any damage.

guys.. thanks! yea i have the painter's tape set & the friends lined up i was looking more towards the actual "proceedure(s) to physically install it..... the 123.... steps so to speak.

I bolted 1 tailgate trunnion to box than slipped the other on the tailgate and carefully lowered it into place. Make sure you tape the side you will be lowering so it does not scratch the box side when lowering.

thanks that is what i had thought, but i wanted to see if someone who has put a "painted" truck together maybe had a secret or two that might help aid in the building & would be able to be shared..... |
