60-63 Windshield Trim Differences
Does anyone know the history of the two different types of 1960-63 stainless windshield trim? Until recently I never realized there were two different designs. I picked up a set of the thin version and they measure ½” wide. They seem to have an equal amount of gasket showing on both sides of the trim like on a 64-66:
There is also a much wider style that appears to almost completely cover the gasket like these shots: I’m curious if one was originally a GMC design and the other specific to Chevy, or was one or the other a unique 1960 design that changed sometime during the 60-63 production run? Or maybe different assembly plants used one style over the other? I wonder why GM would go to the effort to redesign the trim when the 64 cab was right around the corner in regards to engineering/production lead time. Perhaps one style was easier to install? |

It has been my experience that the wider trim was used on the GMC's.

Re: 60-63 Windshield Trim Differences
I'm tuned in and very curious now. I bought a set recently and was planning to try to determin the "best" gasket to use and get it installed soon.

Re: 60-63 Windshield Trim Differences
I'm struggling with the best gasket problem as well. There are a lot of negative reviews but inconclusive on a brand without problems.

Re: 60-63 Windshield Trim Differences
If my windshield ever breaks I may consider driving without one rather than try to put in the gasket with trim again.
It is hard work but it looks great when it is in. Greg.

I've installed many windshields in years past and I'll probably be doing this one myself, but I know what I'm in for. The last time I tried on this truck I failed, and that was with a gasket having no trim. I'm hoping the skinny trim may be a little bit easier. I just love what the windshield and side window trim does for your truck. I'm hoping the stainless sparkle will add a bit more luster to mine as well. Re: 60-63 Windshield Trim Differences
My 63 GMC had the thin trim. I bought a cheap gasket that the installer could not get the trim back in. Later on I got a Steele Rubber gasket and had to wait 4 months while it was on backorder. 2 different shops couldn't get that gasket in either so I ended up having them order a gasket without the trim.

The difficulty lies in juggling the trim and keeping the gasket on the glass while installing in the opening. Four hands would have been better than two. Greg

Re: 60-63 Windshield Trim Differences
It was my understanding that the wide trim was 60-61 and the thinner trim was 62-66. Could be wrong though.

Just an FYI, there'll be a set of wide molding on Ebay.
