Sun visor help
I am trying to replace the sun visors on my 57 3100 and it is turning out to be harder than I thought.
I only planed to swap out the visors so I purchased them from classic. They came in and my stock rods were too skinny so I purchased new chrome rods from them. The quality of the chrome was horrible but aside from that, the triangle bracket is way different than my original on the left. Besides sending this stuff back, which I will do on Monday, any advive on vendor or salvage yard solution? Here are some comparison photos. Original on left. Original on top. Original visor on top.

Re: Sun visor help
The original on the left doesn't look correct for 57 the replacement looks right before I would send them back unless the chrome issue is horrible enough to warrant that. I think some where along the line someone changed the visors.

Re: Sun visor help
Those new ones look like they are for the 47/54. If the 55/59 are the same you need to check to see if you have new screw holes up there. If that's the case you'll need to do some fabricating. I was reading one of those "solutions" tech tips a while back on how to locate the visor screw holes after new headliner installation. The article said to take the correct size screws for the holes and cut the heads off and tapper them to a point and screw them in. That way as you install the headliner you will punch holes in the headliner where the screws should go. What a crafty idea.

Re: Sun visor help
Again, The visors you ordered are the correct one for the 55-59 task force trucks.
What you had was for some other car. Someone in the past 50 years installed them. |

Re: Sun visor help
Thanks for the info everyone.
I thought about the fact that a PO at some point changed out visors but there are only one set of screw holes in the roof. Also, when I tried to install the new stuff, in order for the visor bar to be parallel, one corner of the triangle bracket extends past the edge of the windshield.... I'm not doubting that my lack of experience could be at fault here but I don't see how these will mount.

Re: Sun visor help
This might help you, these are pic's of headliners I took and you just can see a corner of the visor bracket. This should give you an idea on how to mount them.
BTW the holes you already have most likely won't be in the right place or size. |
