It wont fit! engine swap?s Before i get the tourch and saws all!
I have finally gotten around to putting the small block into my 72 Long stepper. I have new motor mounts but the original tranny cross member is preventing me from installing the 305/350 combo. the original engine was a 250/3 speed. I would appreciate any all comments/suggestions on what needs to be modified to make the 305/350 fit. My main concerns are the old tranny mount and the floor board, but everything constructive will be appreciated.

also if you didn't already know the motor mounts will need to move forward one hole from the 6cyl location. a V8 will fit in the 6cyl position but the dist will be very close to the firewall.
the manual trans bellhousing x member took me about 45 min to get out with a grinder (cut off wheels) and a dremel to slot the rivet heads, an air chisel to knock the rivet heads off , and also a sawsall to slice it in half so i wouldnt have to beat it out of the frame with a sledge. good luck
