what started your c10 addiction?

Im gonna say ive been addicted my whole life as proof is in the picture. The pic is a 68' lwb cst taken in 1992 and that little guy next to it, ya that was me 2 years old lol. My great grandfather was the original owner and my dad bought the truck from him back in 91 well I think he only had it a year until somone t boned him and the truck was totaled. So after that my dad picked a couple usable parts off of it and bought a 67 swb. Tore it completely down with plans to rebuild (never happened) the truck remained in peices and most parts were even sold over the years. Fast forward almost 10 years, my parents were buying a house and didnt feel the need to move all the truck parts anymore so I told them I wanted it (at the age of 12) and they said alright as long as I moved it to my grandpa's garage score I bought two part trucks since so my truck now comes from about 5 trucks roughly. I had never seen this picture of this truck or never even heard about it for that matter till I came across it in an old box and asked my dad about, something i find cool the hood of the truck in the pic actually turns out to be the same hood on my truck now. Sorry for the book just really thought it would be cool to tell my story always like hearing everyone elses but i can say one thing i guess chevy really does run deep lol

Re: what started your c10 addiction?

Cool thread! That's an awesome story fastcam! We gotta be around the same age then, if you were two in that pic in 92. My addiction came from the magazine "Trucks," I saw a yellow lowered c10 and I told myself "I'm gonna buy one of those one day." Sure enough found a '69 c10 never looked back! Love this thing! Sadly it's parked right now in storage. I think my rear end or tranny is going out. I'm saving up right now to do a frame off restoration! Buying parts here and there. It's a fun process looking at what treasures everyone still has out there. My taste has changed a little, since the truck in "Trucks" was lowered, I have no plans on lowering mine.

In grade 7, I was sitting in computer class and one of my buddies gave an issue of Truckin'. The rest, as they say, is history
That was right around the time Dazed and Confused came out, from that point on I have owned my 68'

Re: what started your c10 addiction?

probably high school, my shop teacher had a 71 long bed that had seen better days, but it just really hit me as a cool old truck. i obsessed of getting one, i hunted craigslist daily and looked at probably 40 trucks, even some that i would see in someones yard. none of them were worth messing with or they weren't forsale. then out of the blue i went down to an old family friends house to look at a 46 ford truck, and ended up seeing that he had that old truck, i had forgot about it. i made the deal right then and there. smartest thing ive done, its a sweet old truck.

Re: what started your c10 addiction?

My father inlaw got a 68, my 15 year old son loved it, so I got my son the 72 to drive to high school and tinker with it with his old man and grandfather.... it is rather addictive, let me tell you, He has his permit and I pick him up after school in it and he quickly jumps in the drivers seat..... 4 more months and he will drive it on his own.... it has brought some great times for us so far and it is his truck and he says he will pass it down to his son..... needles to say... its family now

Re: what started your c10 addiction?

My dad had a 72 stepside 4x4 and it was the most hiddiest lookin thing, black bed orange cab and walkoff. you could watch the road thru the floor and once we were at a red light when I was about 7 years old and the driverside rear fender fell off, he kept a spare tire in the bed that never had air in it but I loved riding in it and the glovebox was always full of those orange peanut butter crackers and road flares. he parked it and before i was old enough to work on it......well it pretty much fell apart. but its funny cause we were just talking about how i am going to build my 70 today.

Re: what started your c10 addiction?

From 5th grade, my best friend's dad had a 72 stepside. He was in a stepside club. We knew every Chevy stepside in the area. At least one is still in the same driveway. That is a 73. I started out with square stepsides, but recently moved on to a 72 2wd Blazer. Tastes change, but there is enough variety in these trucks to keep satisfy all of us.

My 67 was my dads old work truck. I went with him to test drive it when I was about 9 or 10 years old. Good memories.

My interest in '67-72 C10-90 series trucks came in late-66 when I saw my first '67.

Re: what started your c10 addiction?

My addiction for trucks started while i was growingup seeing my grandfathers '64 gmc. I started driving in1973 but didn't buy a truck till 1979 (new). My brother bought a 1971 chevy about 12 years go and sold it about a year ago. I totaled my bike about 7 months ago and didn't want to make payments on another vehicle. When I started looking for another vehicle I ran across the truck I have now It 's a 1970 Gmc lwb. My truck payment is the parts I buy to keep it running. It will be like new when I get done (as if that will ever happen)

Re: what started your c10 addiction?

I learned to drive in my Grandpa's 77 C10 in the field at about 13 yrs old. I loved that truck, it had a push bumper and a set of wagon wheels. I wanted that truck so bad, but by the time I was 16 the Connecticut winters had taken their toll on it.

A stock 68 like Hartrod's gold and white one. Driven by the farmer's daughter. I later married that girl.

My parents weren't much on pictures, but I did manage to find these of my sister and the truck my dad owned when I was born in the background. I rode home from the hospital in this Gold n White C10.
